  1. My God!!!
Fools, you can find them everywhere. I wonder whether they realize that by doing so, they are bringing these animals in serious danger. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but if they really want to commit suicide, i would say that the train station is pretty near and most probably giving a better result.

  2. I search for English translation, but it is not forthcoming… a woman fell/jumped into the main eisbaer area?

    Tish awaiting details

  3. This AM, the story of the 32-Y-O woman who leapt into the polar bear enclosure is being replayed over and over. Would that be Lars administering all the ‘love’ bites to the interloping chew-toy?

    Strange,

  4. Tish – I tried to send you an email but it came back. Maybe you’ve already got an English translation but here’s the story in a nut shell:

A mentally disturbed 32 years old woman jumped into the big polar bears (Lars and his ladies) moat. She started swimming towards Katjuscha who grabbed her arm and bit her. Only then the woman realized how dangerous it was. The keepers and the visitors worked very hard to pull up the woman from the water and succeeded, too. It was only Katjuscha who grabbed her – the other bears just watched. Maybe they were too surprised to do anything…or they just didn’t want to harm her. I mean – if they had wanted to kill her it would only have taken a few seconds. The woman is still in the hospital but there’s no risk for her life. She can really thank her lucky star that nothing worse happened! The big bears are now happily playing with the toys that were thrown to them – I hope they are allowed to keep them. Let’s hope this kind of incidents won’t happen in the future.

I read in a German newspaper that about 50 Berliners have volonteered to patrol the zoo to keep an eye on the animals and – perhaps even more – on the visitors. I don’t know how reliable this paper is but maybe the idea isn’t so bad….

    Greetings from Mervi
