Bye-Bye Wilbär!

Today I took (maybe) the last chance to say good bye to Wilbär, as he will leave the Wilhelma, Stuttgart very soon. When I came to the enclosure I found Wilbär in full action. He was very busy playing with a grey plastic disc, that toy was his favorite today.

His Mum Corinna was walking on one of the big stones, she did not seem to notice her son a lot.

But when he threw the disc into the water and jumped behind it to “rescue” his toy, Corinna showed interest and they began fighting in the water. This fight was not at all a game, it looked really dangerous. These fights in the water were so quick that I was not able to catch them with the camera. These scenarios showed me that it would not be very long that Mother and Son would have to be separated soon.

I left Wilbär with different feelings, sad that I will not be able to see him again so soon, but now knowing that soon there would not be the harmony between Wilbär and Corinna as we have seen in the last 17 months and happy that he will have the chance to live in a very nice surrounding with his new girlfriend Ewa.

Thank you Wilbär, Thank you Corinna and Thank you Anton It was a great pleasure to follow your little family in the Zoo, on TV in your blog(s).

Greetings from Caren

  1. Caren, Thanks for the great “goodbye” pictures of the dear bearboy Wilbaer with the cute ears….I guess the fighting is an indication that it’s time and maybe not so hard for either bear to part (hopefully)….And dear Anton will have his mate back….that will be wonderful for both of them….xo k-j

  2. Dear Caren,
thank you for the last report from Wilbar in Stuttgart. The white polar carriage is so cute, ready to carry Will away (sniff, sniff). I am keeping my fingers crossed so that Wilbar goes thru this transition well, and I hope Corinna is not too sad to see her beloved son go.

  3. Hi Caren,
Thank you for the beautiful and moving report. I’m in tears now. It seems that both Wilbar and Corinna are ready for his departure. They have been such a loving mom and son that it’s hard to part with them as a pair–probably much harder for us than for them. I think Wilbar will be very happy in his new home–just think of all the new things he will be able to experience–soil, grass, ponds with fish. Let’s hope he and Ewa fall in love like Bill and Lara.

  4. Agreed Leaf, I hope Corinna won’t be too sad, and that Wilbar will handle the transition well. I wish them all the best. Thank you Caren.

  5. Hello dear Caren

Thank you so much for the report and the fotos of your visit at Wilbär.He is such a beautiful bear. But he also grown up and has to leave his mother. That is nature. I wish him a stressles journey to Orsa and hope that he has has the best future a bear can have.

  6. Dear Caren, many thanks for your report. It is exactly what I exptected to be: clear, fair and reasonable. You saw him playing, you saw them both fighting and you realized that the right time is there. Just as it is happening in the wild. Sometimes, I think that animals are smarter than us humans, because there is no animal on earth residing in Hotel Mamma til the day he/she has lost all teeth whereas on the contrary, certain human parents never get rid of their children.
    Big hugs,
    Patricia

  7. Hallo caren,
danke für deinen Wilbärbericht. So komme ich doch noch zum Abschiedsfotomaterial :-)

    @all

  10. Hi Caren,

what a beautiful farewell-story with lovely pictures! Well done!
I hope you enjoyed the rest of your day in Wilhelma.

I got a little sunbrand – just from standing two hours in front of Wilbär!! :-) )
    And – I must admit – I ate the chocolate … :-( ((( But I kept the nice banderole,
    of course! Thank you again!

    Hugs, Danielle

  11. Thank you all for our kind comments. Wilbär-Day was a great issue for me!

  12. Wilbar is such a stunning bear. I wish he didn’t have to go through that difficult separation period but we all know it is for his own good. At least he had a loving and devoted momma and enjoyed a happy baby bearhood. I am praying that he has a safe and swift journey to Sweden and may he find love and bliss and there with the lovely Ewa. I am looking forward to any news about him in the future.
