If Rembrandt could see me now….

24.6.2009 – Photos by Doris Webb

These fantastic photos by Doris made me think of the paintings of the Old Masters. I’m sure they would have chosen the same motive if they lived today! I think all the photo aunties and uncles are the Masters of today – don’t you agree? This page is dedicated to Knuti the Super Model and all the skilful, talented knutographers.

Paint1

I can picture the Masters standing in front of Knuti’s enclosure trying to overdo themselves and each other with new impressions of the most beautiful polar bear in the world.

Paint2

Rubens would certainly find his roundish ladies rather boring compared to a roundish bear!

Paint3

Da Vinci wouldn’t care about the last supper – he would be painting daily feedings in the Berlin Zoo and…

Paint4

… he would certainly fire Monalisa and paint a smiling bear instead.

Paint5

Tizian would forget all about red hair and start painting Knuti’s beautiful fur!

Thank you, Doris, for these amazingly beautiful photos!

Bear hugs to all from Mervi

  1. Mervi,
Knuti looks amazing in these pictures….This reminds me of the book Karen S. sent us an email about:
“Smiling Bears.” Bears really do smile! xo k-j

  2. Very artistic photographs. They bring out a depth to Knuti that is way beyond the cute bear image we all know and love so much. Here we are a seeing a contemplative Knuti as a wise young bear that has been seasoned by life – he knows indescribable joy but he also know sadness and alienation as the inevitable outcome of being born in a universe governed by duality. Thank you Doris for allowing us to see another dimension to Knuti.

  3. Dear Mervi,

I am still silent visitor as I was at RBB Knut blog, but this evening I want to thank you a million for your wonderful website. I adore it and the first thing I do in the morning is …. to read the new articles! Thank you so much for your report at Orsa, it was just magic!
    Thank yoooouuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!

  4. This is really an apt description for these photos- they do look like deliberate compositions.
The second one reminds of Mona Lisa- the way Knuti’s paws are aligned similarly to Mona Lisa’s hands in the famous painting, except the fact that Knut looks away to the side, but on the other photo he’s looking straight at us smiling.
Thank you Doris for the photos. BH.

Isa, welcome to KWM. We are pleased to hear you enjoy it.

  5. Dear Isa!

Welcome to Knuti’s Weekly! Thank you so much for your kind words about his magazine. It’s always so good to get some feedback so I’m glad you ‘broke your silence’. I hope to meet you here again!

Celinne, Leaf – Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards are the Verdi, Puccini and Wagner of a modern time. The photographs are the Masters of Painting nowadays….I mean everybody knows Andy Warhol but how many knows Tizian?

Bear hugs to you all from Mervi

  6. Hi Mervi,

You sure do come up with brilliant ideas combining a theme with fantastic photos–a collage of photos and prose. Just perfect. And Doris has outdone herself with the photos–such rich detail and textures. I can just picture Doris standing in front of Knuti, instructing him on how she wanted him to pose–now look this way, put your paw that way… And Knuti, being a generous bear, doing as she asked while smiling gently.

    Bear hugs, Sarsam

  7. The pose and palette of colours says it all. How interesting that his fur blends into the rockface!

Hello Isa, you are very welcome here! :)

  8. Perfect, perfect, perfect, dear Mervi!
