Sweet, aren’t they??? By the way, I am Denali, the father…and you won’t steal them!

Searching for name news on the Japanese twins , I didn’t find any names but I found the lovely photos of Steve Tracy, an Aussie (and Knut friend!!!) living in Japan who has visited the cubs and their Mom 2 times. Until now these little ones haven’t got any names as the gender could not yet be determined, the staff seems to be hesitant to intrude into the closeness between mom Rara and her cubs and as to gender issues, we all know that in the past there had been some mis-identification causing worldwide headlines last year…

-An older post about the Japanese cubs, you find here(dt., engl, japan.).
-And here more heartwarming photos of Steve Tracy, his other wildlife photos are worthwhile too!!
-The Marayuma Zoo site, where I found Denali, shows also some lovely pics…it’s all in Japanese but you can click yourself through the photos…
- And here again, the
first video, and something about their first swim in April, also with video…

And sure, the outpost of Knut will keep you posted about the Sapporo twins…!

  1. Dear Birgit,

Thank you so much for the lovely article and the cute photos. The cubs are adorable and what a proud father they have! I’m going to check the links later – I’m sure the videos are fantastic.

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Thank you so much, Mervi, this article was posted already some days ago in the outpost, but due to these beautiful photos of Steve Tracy and the fact that Rara makes a wonderful mother, I wanted them to be more known also in the Knutian world.

I will certainly write more about them…Steve is a wonderful wildlife and zoo photographer and I am happy to be in touch with him, so Japan is one of the countries Knut’s Outpost will be visiting on a more regular schedule…

  3. Oh my heavens! A double dose of sweetness. Aren’t they adorable and two of ‘em! Thanks goodness I don’t live near these cuties. If I did, the zoo would have to eject me forcefully because I will move in full time. Rara’s so pretty and delicate herself. Maybe we can hope for one girl and one boy. Aww……..

  4. Another example of a loving, caring polar bear mum and 2 rascals who already show they are having the time of their lives! Thanks so much to Birgit for making sure the story got here ;-) . Tish

  5. Oh those are just adorable. Thank you Birgit for cross-posting your article here at KWM. Keep us posted on the Japanese cubs progress. BH. Leaf

  6. Thank you for your comments..I had to laugh when I read yours , Celinne, I had exactly the same reaction when I saw these little ones with Rada…:))
