The Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara, CA last week caused these two to take shelter together. The fawn is 3 days old and the bobcat about 3 weeks. The fawn came from somewhere in the fire and the bobcat from Carpentaria. They immediately bonded and snuggled together under a desk in the Santa Barbara County Dispatch Office for several hours.

Animal Planet is reporting the bobcat kitten was rescued near Arnold Schwarzeneggers ranch, where it was dehydrated and near death. They rescued the fawn during last weeks wildfire. Although wild animals, especially of separate species, are never placed together due to regulations, in this emergency situation, they had no choice. During the mayhem of the fire, they were forced to put animals anywhere they could, since they had run out of crates large enough for the fawn. The kitten ran to the fawn, and it was instant bonding.

  1. Dear Betsy,

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Dear Betsy,
thank you so much for this touching story and the photoes. Here we learn that regulations made by humans are not always realistic for the animals, especially in special situations. They both are so cuuuuute I wonder how this love story is going on….

  4. Awwww…. so sweeeeeet! What an unlikely pair.
Sweeeties pies. I’d like to squeeze and eat them both instantly. :-0
They match in colors so perfectly!
    BH to Betsy!

  5. Betsy,

Thanks for this touching tale. The California wildfires are very upsetting to me and I worry as much about the animals as I do about the displaced humans. Arson is a deplorable crime because it hurts so many innocent ones. At least these two found each other and that is good news.

  6. Betsy,

Thank you so much for bringing this story to KWM. I agree with Celinne about arson being a deplorable crime, killing people, other animals and burning up thousands of acres of forest. I wonder if the bobcat cub was attracted to the deer partially because they are of similar color and both have good-sized ears! One thing is for sure–they are both extremely cute!
