Update La Bella Giovanna

Giovanna wird zu Knut ziehen. Heute wurde mir das in Hellabrunn mehr oder weniger bestätigt. Eine offizielle Verlautbarung seitens des Tierparks liegt noch nicht vor, aber die Rauchzeichen sind deutlich, Giovanna soll mit Knut vergesellschaftet werden. Deutlich wurde aber, dass es fest eingeplant ist, dass Giovanna nach dem Gehegeumbau 2010 wieder nach München gehen wird!
Die Knutianer haben sich nichts sehnlicher für Knut gewünscht, als ein nettes Eisbärmädchen für den „King of the Polar Bears“. Nun wird es bald soweit sein, es werden aber seitens der Fangemeinde auch kritische Stimmen laut: Ist sie die geeignete Partnerin für Knut? Ist das Gehege nicht ohnehin schon für einen Eisbären zu klein? Passt sie zu Knut? Wie wird das funktionieren?
Die gleichen Fragen stellte sich die Flocke-Fanbasis Anfang des Jahres, als Rasputin aus Moskau die lange Reise nach Nürnberg antrat. Ihm wurde Dominanz vorausgesagt, er war (und ist) kräftiger als Flocke. Die große Freude war begleitet von Skepsis. Heute, nach 8 Monaten hat Raspi die Herzen der Flockefans erobert und man sieht, wie gut die beiden Eisbärenkinder miteinander auskommen. Übrigens war es Flocke, die Raspi gleich in den ersten Minuten nach dem Zusammentreffen eine „geknallt“ hat. Auch hier sind die Charaktere sehr unterschiedlich, aber sie leben in Freundschaft und Harmonie miteinander, auch wenn sie sich immer mal wieder aus dem Wege gehen.
So könnte es mit Knut und Giovanna doch auch gehen. Meiner Meinung nach haben sie auch sehr unterschiedliche Charaktere. Und Gegensätze ziehen sich bekanntlich an. Hoffen wir, dass sie gut miteinander auskommen und viel Spaß haben werden. Liebe Knutianer, heißt die schöne Giovanna in Bärlin bitte herzlich willkommen.

Giovanna will move to Knut. Today more or less the Tierpark Hellabrunn confirmed what the newspapers have already reported. I was made clear so far, that Giovanna will move back to Munich in 2010, when the new enclosure will be ready!
The Knutians desired so very much, that the „King of the Polar Bears“ gets a nice polar bear girl. It won’t be long now, however the Knut’s fanbasis has a lot of questions: Is she really a suitable partner for Knut? Isn’t the enclosure too small? Will they both match? How will it work?
The same questions came up from the Flocke fanbasis at the beginning of the year when Rasputin was on his long way from Moscow to Nürnberg. He was said to be dominant. Today, after 8 months Raspi has captivated the hearts of the Flockefans and one can see how well both are doing. By the way, it was Flocke who gave Raspi a slap in the face right after the first minutes they were let together. Also, their characters are very different, but they live in friendship and harmony, though they sometimes go their own ways.
With Knut and Giovanna it could be the same. In my opinion they also have different characters, but it is known that contraries have a magic power of attraction. Let’s hope that they like each other and have a lot of fun together. Dear Knutians, please give la Bella Giovanna a warm welcome in Bärlin.

Wow…I don’t know what to say now that the speculation has been confirmed. Half of me is happy that Knut will have companionship – the other half worried that they might not be compatible or might become too attached and Knut will miss her terribly when she moves back home. Knutians have always hoped that it would be Flocke and Knut forever. But Flocke has Raspi and Knut is still alone.
I am open and willing to see how this arrangement works out for both bears. Their happiness is all that is really important. As one of Knut’s self-appointed momma’s, I welcome Miss Giovanna to the family and she too is now considered to be among my beloved bears. If she makes Knut happy, then one of my dreams would have come true. The door of my heart is open, pretty Giovanna…come in and sit down.
I wonder what Daddy Thomas must be thinking? I am sure he’s smiling.

Oh dear! Seems as if the international media has gotten hold of the story and I am getting google alerts from around the world as far as India, highlighting the new relationship. Seems however as if she’s referred to as “Gianna” and had a stormy relationship with Yogi who was supposed to be her mate. Somebody was kicked out of the enclosure and Gio ended up sharing digs with Knut’s granny, Lisa while refusing to acknowledge poor Yogi. This girl might be a tad “difficult”. Oh dear!

well, her keeper told me that she did not get on well with Yogi. The reason could be that she still is a “child” and Yogi -in comparison to her- an ol’ man. I do not know whether she really is difficult. Raspi was told to be– you know and it turned out to be a good companionship. I think positive. They very slowly will the bears get used to each other. And I am convinced they will learn from each other and both like playing very much. Knutt’s charme will change her attitudes.

Caren- I hear what you are saying. Maybe she was really too young when they paired her off with Yogi. We’ll we’ll just have to wait and see but I wish them both lots of love and harmony. We all want Knut to be happy and that’s the bottom line. I am seeing media stories from Russia, India, the US everywhere on Knut and his Italian girlfriend. Seems everybody’s up in Knut’s business! Here’s To Knut and Gia!
awwwww….I wish Knuti to be happy, too….let’s hope they respond as wonderfully at Willbaer and Ewa…wouldn’t that be marvy? xo k-j
Caren – Thank you for the update! Giovanna looks like a sporty kind of girl so she has something in common with Knuti. I can already picture them playing ball together. She obviously know she’s good looking and behaves like a Primadonna Assoluta!

Hi Caren,
Thank you for the new photos–she is a nice looking bear. I remember one of the Berlin zoo bear officials saying a year or more ago that Knut was a very independent and strong (I think they meant strong-willed) bear and so a potential mate would have to be the same or stronger. From a distance, Giovanna seems to be a match in that respect. She also obviously likes to play with toys–that’s good too. I see no problem that she and Yogi did not get along–I cannot imagine that all bears get along with all other bears equally. It could be that she just did not like him. Why not–it happens with humans, cats, dogs, etc., why not bears… In any case I am very willing to have an open mind where she is concerned. And apparently the deal is not 100% sealed either. We’ll just have to wait and see… Personally, I think it would be cruel to break up Flocke and Raspi now. They seem to be very happy together. Of course I understand the “genetic lines” are all important…

Dear Sarsam, I do totally agree what you commented. Thank you so much. Well, the “children” may get on well but you never now what is later.Gio still is a child and Yogi a man, and it can very well be the case that either of them has nothing in common with the other. In 2 years’ time the situation for Raspi and Flocke may be different than today, too. We have to wait and see if Knuti and Gio wil get and (more important) stay together. In my mind one is for sure Knut needs a girl which is not fixed on humans. The same situation is with Flocke. What happens when they are grown up, we do not know yet. It will be very interesting and exciting to observe the development of the four.

CAREN: Giovanna is very pretty polar bear girl! I hope she and Knuti “hit it off” from the very beginning! They say “opposites attract” so hopefully this will be the case. It was with Bill and I. He loved to go camping on the beach and fishing and my idea of fun is comfy hotel room and good food. I will be there to welcome and support the new lady. Well, at least on the knuptor. HeHe.
