Liebe Freundinnen und liebe Freunden
Sie alle wissen schon, dass eine Donna bei mir wohnt. Sie ist meine liebe Freundins Flockes Bestis Signorina Giovanna. Sie ist eine Italienerinnen ( man merkt es sehr knut). Sie wohnt in Muenchen, aber sie möchte ihre Wohnung gar nicht. Sie machte ein Beschluss, dass sie ein Villa nach italienischen Art bauen lass. Meine liebe Flocke fragte, ob ihre Freundin in meinem Gästezimmer während Bauarbeit wohnen könnte.Ich kann nie NEIN an meine liebe Flocke sagen. Und nun ist diese Donna hier.
Ich bin ein preussicher Bär und liebe Puenktlichkeit. Ich habe – ich hatte- mein Tagesordnung. Am Vormittag schlafen oder langsam spielen. Dann vor dem Lunch trainieren. In aller Ruhe Lunch essen. Nach dem Essen spielen und meine Fans treffen. Abendbrot, TV-schauen und am Knuputor mein Fanpost lesen und antworten.Jetzt ist es Alles vorbei.
Weil ich ein kluger Bär ist, habe ich ein Kontrakt mit Donna Gianna gemacht. Sie kann in meinem Pool schwimmen, aber nicht zwischen 11.30-14.30 Uhr. Dann ist mein Pool nur meins. Sie soll in Gästezimmer uebernachten, niemals in meiner Wohnung. Sie kann auch mein Garten benuetzen, aber nicht pflanzen und nicht auf meinem sandfarbige Aussensofa benutzen.
Ich sollte viel genauer sein. Sie will frueh aufstehen. Sie ist so furchtbar neugierig, was meine liebe Nachtbaren Berni und Juergen machen. Berni und Juergen haben schon oftmals mir angerufen: Was guckst eigentlich diese Dame? Ich versuche es ihnen zu erzählen. Ausländerinnen sind so neugierig..
Ich musste auch alle meine Spielsachen verstecken, weil ich nicht weiss, will sie meine Spielsachen altmodisch und ohne-Design finden.Ich habe Angst, dass sie will meine Spielsachen wegwerfen. Sie hat gesagt, dass nur Plastik-Tonnen sind in der Mode.
Ich muss noch diese Donna acht Monaten leisten. Ich soll jetzt in mir ein Lehrer finden. Ich muss so viel an diese Donna zu lehren.
Vielleicht geht es. Sie tappst sehr niedlich, sie hat ein sehr schönes, weisses Pelz, ihr Parfuem duftet sehr knut, ihre Pfoten sind sehr knut gepflegt. Und ihre Nagelfarbe und Lippenstift passt ihn sehr knut.
Aber ich muss noch sehr knut aufpassen, was macht sie, wie macht sie und wann macht sie was. ich bin momentan sehr eilig und darum sehr muede.

As you all know by now there’s a Donna living in my enclosure. Her name is Signorina Giovanna and she’s the best friend of my beloved Flocke. She’s Italian which I have already noticed! Giovanna didn’t like her appartment in Munich so she demanded the Munich Zoo to build her a house in modern Italian style. That’s why my dear Flocke asked me if she could borrow one of my bedromms while the house building is going on. Of course, I couldn’t say NO to Flocke. And now the Donna is here.
Being a Prussian Bear I’m a friend of order. I have – I had – my days thoroughly scheduled. In the morning I sleep and swim slowly. Then I train a little before lunch. I take good time to enjoy my food. After the lunch I usually play with my toys and entertain my fans. In the evening it’s time for ‘Abendbrot’, TV-watching and sitting by my knuputor answering my fan mails. Sigh – those scheduled days are over now.
Well, I’m a clever bear so I have an agreement with Giovanna. I allow her to swim in my pool but not between 11.30 and 14.30. During that time the pool is mine! She can sleep in my guest room but never in my appartment. She can also stay in my garden but she mustn’t mess around with my plants and she really mustn’t touch my sand throne.
I should be even more precise. She wants to get up very early because she’s terribly curious to know what ny neighbours Berni and Jürgen are doing. As a matter of fact, Berni and Jürgen have already asked me what this Donna is looking for. I’ve tried to explain that the foreign ladies are very curious by nature…
I found it necessary to hide all my toys. You never know – maybe she thinks my toys are old fashioned and not top designed so maybe she wants to throw them away!! She told me that blue plastic buckets are the latest toy fashion.
Can you imagine – I have to put up with this Donna for months! I really have to find a teacher who tells me how to teach Giovanna. She’s got a lot to learn!
Maybe everything will go smoothly anyway. She walkes very nicely, she has a lovely, white, fluffy fur, her perfume smells really good and her paws are well pawicured. There’s nothing wrong with her lipstick or nail polish either….
However, I must watch her very carefully. What she does, how she does it and when she does different things. I’ve been very busy watching her and now I feel very tired…..

Dear Knuti, that was an excellent idea to let her sign a contract, especially in view of your toys. Imagine she would threw them away because of being old-fashioned and not having the right color. We all know that you still have at least eights months to go with this lady and we all hope that it will become a pleasant time. Maybe, TBM can given some good advise to Gianna and TBV can guide you along the way to learn about girls.

vielen Dank für diese wunderschöne Geschichte; ja ich finde, Du beschreibst sehr gut, wie sich Knut verhält. Ich habe festes Vertrauen darauf, dass die beiden sich auch mal so gut verstehen werden wie unser fränkisches Traumpaar Flocke und Rasputin! Sicher gibt Flocke ihrem Freund Knut auch viele Ratschläge wie er sich am besten verhält! Und Rasputin wird seinen Freund Knut sicher auch unterstützen!

I do know now that you are the King but may I remind you that I am the Queen in Exile. You have made a lot of rules that are very hard for me to follow. Do you know that in my tiny little palace in Munich I could do what and whenever I wanted? And please – do not say anything against my royal blue toys. They are not only latest fashion but also very nice to play with. If you are a good boy then I will let you play with them too. You are a nice guy and I am sure we will get on with each other very well as soon as you get used to my speed, then we will have a lot of fun together. I have already begun to like you very much. And please, do not worry I am not going to throw away your lovely toys. You are so very much occupied with watching me, come on, keep cool and let’S have a lot of fun toether.
I think we should negotiate the contract again. That’s what my best friend Princess Flocke zu Nuremberg advised me.

What a perfect and beautiful translation of Knuti’s thoughts! I think you have “hit the nail on the head” as we say here in the U.S. He is a bear that loves order–he has his sand bed just right, his wallowing hole just right, and his toys are all stored in their “proper” places. But, as we know, if he wants the Donna to be his friend, he will have to learn to share. The board was a step in the right direction….

Gerne treffe ich mich mit Dir zu einem Saltimbocca Essen. Aber, ich, die Königin von München, bin nicht eine Untermieterin, nein ich lebe in Berlin im Exil.
