Magic play in Bärlin

Knuti got 2 (two!) salmons this day. Before, he even left some little fishes and also meat in the moat, as he first didn’t want to jump into the water. So Giovanna was lucky when she came back. In addition, she shoo Knuti away from a little red pumpkin, he had hardly had the chance to get a bite of it before she appeared. It must have been a hard one, as she had to work quite a long time on it by her standards. After she had finished Knuti’s meal, she dived and got up the magic mirror from the moatbed. She put it near Knuti’s dining table on one of the stones beside, obviously with intent to play with Knuti who stood in the little pool.

And now a magic play between the two of them started. It was of peculiar charm! People sometimes were in breathless anticipation what would happen next, sometimes they broke out in laughter. There were hilarious situations, e.g. when Giovanna from beneath the board and Knuti from over the board looked straight into the eyes of one another through just a tiny gap. Or, when Giovanna lifted the board from below and Knuti jumped in polar bear type manner on it, and consequently the board dashed against Giovanna’s head. Thanks God, she is a tough girl and can also dish it out, as we know by now

Should somebody have been in doubt whether Giovanna had brought the board in special intent or if it was mere co-incidence, she provided herself evidence of purpose: when the board once dropped into the moat during their play, Giovanna immediately put it back to the stones between herself and Knuti, and they continued: pushing, hopping, scratching, biting, bandying looks, being anxious to get to know what the other one will do next! Certainly they also exchanged little kisses now and then or looked to one another under water.

Not only the bears were magic, so was the whole atmosphere on this special after-Knuti’s-birhtday-Monday. The unexpected wonderful weather did the rest!

Dear Ludmila, Uwe and Dumba,
An absolutely delightful report on a charming event!! The photos are super! And it is good to see it from the standpoint of people who were there–it sure seemed like Gianna “planned” this game when she put the board back on the rock after it fell off–good to see that impression confirmed. She has turned out to be a good companion for Knut–they are both curious and smart and Gianna’s persistent patience is paying off–Knut is beginning to trust her. Thank you so much.
Hugs from Sarsam
