The polar bear Wilbär will be two years old on Thursday 10th of December and, of course, there will be a birthday party in Orsa Polar World at 13.00.
Wilbär was born 2007 in Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart, Germany and has been raised by her mother Corinna. The father’s name is Anton. He came to Orsa Polar World May 15 2009 to join Ewa – a polar bear girl who had arrived a couple of weeks earlier. By the time of the great opening of the Polar World in May 18 they lived separated in different enclosures but only a few days later we let them together and since then they’ve been a happy couple.
Now that winter finally has arrived in Grönklitt we can see how the bears together are developing to behave more and more naturally – just like polar bears in the wilderness. As an example I can mention the blue barrel – you could think it was a seal with which Wilbär has to wrestle…..
Wilbär loves to play all day long – especially now that there’s snow and ice. We hope the little rascal will become a big and mighty polar bear just like his handsome father Anton.
Orsa Polar World is a part of the EAZA and we work for maintaining the species so of course, we hope there will be polar bear cubs within a few years. Well, that will not happen until at least two more years because little Wilbär will be only two years old on December 10.
I wish you all welcome to Wilbär’s birthday party on Thursday! We say already ‘Hip, hip hurray’!

Does one of Wilbär’s former keepers from Wilhelma be present? I am sure, they would love to be there but I doubt that Wilhelma would be prepared to BEAR the travelling expenses!
