Bears, squirrels and roaring lions in Bärlin

Am 20.01.2010 sind wir kurz vor 10 Uhr im Zoo angetroffen. Es war kalt und trübe. Wir sind gleich zum Knut und Giovanna gegangen. Knut ruhte neben dem Baum:
On the 1/20/2010 we arrived shortly before 10 o’clock in the zoo. It was cold and grey. We went immediately to Knut and Giovanna. Knut rested beside the tree:
Giovanna lief unruhig hin und her:
Giovanna ran restive to and fro:
Um 10.30 wurden die großen Eisbärinen gefüttert. Sie warteten schon ungeduldig. Frau Weckert kam pünktlich und brachte reichlich Fleisch und Salat.
Around 10.30 the big female polar bears were fed. They waited quite impatiently. Mrs. Weckert came on time and brought richly meat and salad.
Auf dem Weg zu Knut und Giovanna sahen wir ein Eichhörnchen auf der Suche nach dem Futter.
On the way to Knut and Giovanna we saw a squirrel searching of the feed.

Giovanna rollte sich im Schnee:

Der Weg zum Wasser ist vereist. Die Bären haben die Schwierigkeiten beim Absteigen und aufsteigen.
The way to the water has frozen over. The bears have the difficulties with the going down and climb up.

Nach der Fütterung kam Giovanna raus und die Beide spielten sehr schön im Wasser:
After the feeding Giovanna came out and the both played very nicely in the water:
Leider wurde uns sehr kalt und wir sind dann gegangen.
Unfortunately, we got really cold and then we have gone.
Zwischendurch besuchten wir Nilpferdhaus. Hier wohnen:
Occasionally we visited Nile horse’s house. Here live:
Die Tapirfamilie:
Im Raubtierhaus der Löwe Paul war mit seiner Frau Amira zusammen. Er war sehr unzufrieden und brüllte aus dem vollen Hals:
In the predator’s house the lion Paul was with his wife Amira together. He was very discontented and roared hard:
Seine Frau unterstützte ihn dann mit dem Gebrüll auch:
His wife also supported him with the roar:
Der junge Löwe war nicht mit seiner Schwester zusammen, er war mit Jazira. Er versuchte etwas näher zu Jazira zu kommen, aber sie behielt ihn in den Augen.
The young lion was not with his sister together, he was with Jazira. He tried to come a little closer to Jazira, but she kept him in the eyes.
Jazira:
In einem Becken mit dem Elektrozaun saß ein Seelöwe. Er posierte richtig und freute sich über unsere Aufmerksamkeit.
In a pool with the electric fence sat a sea lion. He posed properly and was glad about our attention.

What beautiful photos you have brought to us from Bärlin! I love the squirrel and the photo of Jazira is just awesome. Needless to say Knuti and Gianna look lovely as always. And the lady bears and and and …..I just love all the photos!

Ein ganz toller Zoobericht – besonders gefreut hat mich, dass ihr auch Knuts Mama und die “Tanten” besucht habt, leider ist Papa Lars ja nach Wuppertal ausgewandert.

Delightful photos! Thank you very much for braving the cold to get them!! From the reddish color in the corner of the tapir house, it looks like the tapirs have a heat/sun lamp… Lion Paul and Jazira are quite impressive–every time I see him, I remember hearing his roar that you got for us–the two of them roaring back and forth must have been deafening!!
