Please. don’t forget Knuti’s Weekly’s charity project to help the bears in Gnadenhof! This is a golden opportunity for us all to do something concrete for our fourlegged friends.

In the former mine village Houtoung (Taiwan), lots of tourists come especially to pet the approximately 400 stray cats. They also take billions of pics, buy cat-related souvenirs and volunteers look for free care and food for the cats. According to a very satisfied visitor from Taipei, it is a very pleasant experience and he said that the cats were very clean and not at all scared of humans.
It all started with Mrs. Chan Bi-Yun, who took over the five cats of a neighbour after his passing away. Shortely thereafter, the cats started to breed like rabbits, with the result that there are now twice as much cats as humans. And herewith a few pics.

How sick and cruel can a human be???
In the airport of Bangkok, a two-month old tiger cub was found in the luggage of a 31-year old Thai woman, who tried to “smuggle” it to Iran. On the airport, she was having problems with the check-in of her bag and on the X-rays, it became clear that allegedly there was an animal in her bag. Special support from experts was called and they found the sedated cub that was immediately brought to a shelter. There a vet took care of it, because it was suffering of dehydration and was very weak. After giving the required and very needed liquids and food, it is now in a better condition. The woman risks to get a penalty of 4 years in prison and a fine of EUR 1.000 (na, well, maybe that according to their standard, this represents a lot of money, but according to mine, it is still peanuts). And herewith a few pics of the cub. By the way, one can wonder what happened with the mother ?????

Was macht eigentlich Mary II?

The keepers told me that she has to learn hard, but there are little improvements. Mary is playing alone and she is swinging forwards and backwards. The keepers informed me that it is extremely difficult , that she has to go on learning. One doesn’t know whether integration will be successful, it would be difficult. However, all hope that it will work and crossing paws may help ….. Mary was playing with the straw and swinging a bit, I talked to her. I felt sorry for Mary when I saw her alone, from the bottom of my heart I wish her that she will be integrated soon

Photographer Michel Denis-Huot, who captured these amazing pictures on safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara in October last year, said he was astounded by what he saw:
“These three brothers (cheetahs) have been living together since they left their mother at about 18 months old,” he said. “On the morning we saw them, they were walking quickly but stopping
sometimes to play together. At one point, they met a group of impala who ran away. But one youngster was not quick enough and these extraordinary scenes followed.”

Prickly situation: Meet Trifle, the hedgehog with three broken legs
Please meet Trifle, a young 10-weeks old hedgehog, who was brought the the “St. Tiggiwinkles Wildlife hospital” in Ruislip (Middlesex – UK), where an ray indicated that he was having three broken legs. Nobody knows how he has broken his legs, however, the keepers at the shelter assumed that he fell off a wall and forgot to form a ball to protect himself during this fall.
According to the management of the shelter, it will take about 8 weeks before the feet will be healed completely, although they hope he can keep them (a thing that is not for sure yet). As such, they have decided to keep Trifle at least one year in the shelter to give him a chance to recover and to heal the injuries.

21.8.2010 – Greetings from the Mallard Family in Canada – Photos by Dave

Patricia – What a touching story about Trifle! I’m so glad there’s a safe place for him to heal the injuries! This kind of stories always make me believe there’s hope for the planet and the mankind.
Dave – Thank you for the greetings from the Mallard Family!
Hugs from Mervi
Wow Patricia!
It is very touching. I hate the people who ride over the hedgehogs.
Hugs
Dear Patricia
thanks for the article. Poor little hedgehog. It is good to know there are people who care for him. I hope he will be well soon.
Dear Dave
the Mallard Familiy is very nice. The pics are fantastic!

Patricia, I do hope Trifle recovers well, the whole thing must be very confusing for him!
Dave, thank you for sharing your lovely pics!
Dear Eva,
Thank you for these lovely photos. I’ve seen them before but they are simply so amazing that they deserve to be seen over and over again!

Dear Eva!
Thank you for the nice pectures of bears playing with the dogs.
Hugs
Dear Betsy,
These photos of the impala and the cheetahs are almost beyond belief! I’ve never seen anything like this before. Thank you so much for posting them.
Hugs from Mervi
Dear Betsy,
this is an incredible repport, but obviously true. What does Mervi always say? MIRACLES DO HAPPEN, and they happen. Here is proof of it.
Thanks so much for this lovely article.
Hugs from caren
Dear Eva,
what a scenario. As I said already in Knuipe I have seen a video of it. One cannot believe what one sees but it is true. So lovely. Thank you so much for this heartwarming contribution.
Hugs from caren
Dear Betsy
An incredible story!
I saw the same situation with young wolfs and a deer calv, playing together as brother and sister.
Thanks for your posting!
Greetings Crissi
haha, here we have two stories of predators with very full bellies, all in the mood for play. It really does seem miraculous to see the cheetahs and the impala..all are smiling bright…really otherworldly.
Eva..thank you for posting, I never get tired of seeing the bears with the dogs. Can you just imagine being there live? I recently read that the bear came back to play several nights in a row.
*smile*
Yes, Miracles DO happen!

Dear Mamselleken Patricia – This labrador is definitely trained by Herr Ober
I wish he was living with me! Well, I just have to try to train my cats….
Hugs from Mervi
Patricia, LOL< you find the funniest things!
Dear Betsy, there you say something. Maybe, mine are funny, yours are simply breath-taking. Well, especially for the little impala. I wish I knew what was going through her mind during this close encounter.
But in the end, animals will never stop to surprise us, they simply do what they want to do even it is against all odds. Same goes for the pics of the polar bear and the dogs. Yes, I saw these photos and video already before, but still it is making me silent (and that is something I think that only a polar bear can do).
Dear Ursi,
Thank you for telling us about Mary. I, too, feel sorry for her and I sincerely hope she can be integrated with the others as soon as possible. Sometimes things just won’t work out. Your photos are lovely!
Caren – Thank you for the translation – it’s very much appreciated!
Hugs from Mervi
Liebe Ursi!
Dear Ursi, thank you for informing us about Mary Two. I hope that one day she starts by getting trust in the rest of the group, especially the big male. I already learned that he is certainly not having a negative attitude towards her presence, but she seemed to be too scared. And after all, it also seems that it is very difficult for handraised gorilla’s to get introduced and feeling safe in a group. And unfortunately, her little sister Claudia will have to face the same problems. But please keep us informed.
Liebe Ursi
Ursi
Liebe Ursi, liebe Caren,
Gruss
Ursi
Dear Patricia,
Thank God the cub was discovered by the customs. I hope this stupid woman will rot in hell! There are no excuses for this kind of cruelty and especially not when the only reason is greed! I’m glad the cub is safe now but I’m furious knowing there are so many people as mean, greedy and stupid as this woman.
Mervi
Hallo Patricia
Dear Patricia,
this makes me really sick and sad and very furious, how people can do such crime on animals.
The only good thing is that this cute cub is in a shelter now and hopefully well looked after. All my thoughts are with him and the poor mother (I do not want to imagine what happened to her).
This woman should be …., I can only follow Mervi’s wishes.
