How many of you remember, November 6, 1994, when twin polar bear cubs Klondike and Snow were born at the Denver Zoo.

On November 6, 1994, twin polar bear cubs Klondike and Snow were born to a first-time mother named Ulu, who rejected the cubs. They were successfully raised by zoo staff and became a popular attraction. The bears now reside at SeaWorld Orlando. Their story is commemorated at the Denver Zoo by a bronze sculpture located across from the main polar bear viewing area.

This is their story….

The Klondike & Snow story was chronicled by David E. Kenny with the book “Klondike & Snow: The Denver Zoo’s Remarkable Story of Raising Two Polar Bear Cubs“.

  1. Dear Knuti-Judi,

Thank you for reminding us of Klondike and Snow. Imagine – the twins are 16 years old now!

I couldn’t help thinking of a very special cub born in Berlin….. why wasn’t he allowed to live longer than only 4 years…..

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Dear Knuti-judi,
this was a nice story. The bears are still alive.

  3. Knuti-Judi,

Thank you for the reminder–and the link to the book! This is quite a story! Hmmm, it is very reminiscent of how Thomas took care of Knut (the hands-on approach). I bet he consulted with/read about Denver’s experiences too.

    Hugs, Sarsam

  6. Dear Knudy, thank you for reminding us of this story. The both of them are still together, aren’t they? I am happy for them and I do hope they have still some (let’s say QUTE A LOT!) of healthy and funny years together, well cared for, with lots of good food, and sufficient occasion to play and to feel happy.

  7. Dear Knuti-Judi,

thank you for the lovely story of Klondike and Snow. I wish both all the best.

    Hugs from Alex

  8. Dear Judy

    Beautiful, thank you.

    Bear hugs

  9. Knuti Judi,

Thanks for sharing this story about these two stunning bears. Have so many years passed since these two were born? Seems like yesterday. I am happy to know that both bears are living at SeaWorld. They remind me of Knuti, but then all bears remind me of Knuti and I look for every excuse to write about him.

  10. Die zwei hübschen Bären leben jetzt im SeaWorld in Orlanda. Sie sind immer noch zusammen und fühlen sich wohl.
