Den Möwen von Texel – The seagulls of Texel

Hier sind einige Impressionen von ein winterischen Strandwanderung auf das Holländisches Wattenmeer-Insel Texel.
Here are some impressions of a wintery beach walk on the Dutch Wadden Sea Island Texel.
Diese Ganzen wunderten sich was wir in der Kälte machten – es war einige Grad minus und Windstärke 7 – und flogen ein bisschen näher um alles genauer zu beobachten.
These geese were wondering what we were doing in the cold – it was a few degrees (Celcius) below zero and gail force 7 – and they flew a litte nearer to take a closer look.
In der “Slufter”, ein Gebiet wo es zwischen Strand und Meer keine Dünen gibt und das Meereswasser einfach das Land inkommen kann wenn es Flut ist.
In the “Slufter”, an area where there are no dunes as barrier between sea and beach, and the water can and does come into the land when it’s flood.

Weil es so viel Wind gab, staubte das Sand.
While there was so much wind, the sand moved, as you can see in the picture.
Und weil es dabei auch noch so Kalt war, hat selbst das Sand ein Ganzehaut!
And because it was so cold, even the sand hat goose pimples!
Schnee auf das Strand – etwas was man bei uns nicht oft seht.
Snow on the beach – something which is selden seen over here.
Das Schaum sind verstorbenen Algen; also es seht aus wie Veruntreinigung aber es ist es nicht.
The foam you see consists of dead algae; it may look like pollution, but it is not.
Den Hunden riechten schon der Frühlung in der Luft.
The dogs already smelled spring in the air.
Den Hunden hatten keine Auge für Naturschön – sie waren beschäftigt!
The dogs had no eyes for the natural beauty surrounding them – there were too busy with their toys!
Und ich denke, sie liebten das!
And I think, they loved it!
Den Möwen fand ich sehr Interessant zu beobachten. Eigentlich war es auch der erste Mal, das ich das tat, danke meine Tele-Objektiv. Auf einige Bilder kannst euch sehen, wie sie Muscheln (mit Weichtiere) aus der Brandung fingen. Ich wüsste überhaupt nicht das sie das tun. Habe nachgesucht ins Netz: das sie es tun ist zu lesen, aber es gibt fast keine Bilder davon. Das wir das mehrmalen sagen und fotografierten, muss doch irgendwo denn etwas spezielles gewesen sein. Wieder Glück gehat!
The seagulls were very interesting to observe. To be honest, it was the first time I did, thanks to my tele-objective. On some of the pictures you can see how they catch shell-fish in the surf. I never knew they did that. I searched the web and read they really do, but pictures showing them doing it seem to be rare on the internet. The fact we saw them do it more than once, may have been something special then. Again, beginners luck!
Oft sagen wir zu einander das Knut langsam war in seine Begegnung zu andere Eisbären, aber bei mir hat es 57 Jahren gedauert, vor ich diese Möwen, der mein ganzes Leben schon rund mein Haupt fliegen, ein bisschen mehr genähert habe! Ob das mehr über mich sagt wie über Knut, machst euch selbst ausmachen!
Often we say to eachother that Knut was slow in making acquaintances with others, but with me it took 57 years before I took the time and trouble to take a closer look at the seagulls, that have been flowing above my head for my entire life! Whether that says anything about Knut or about myself, is for you to decide!

Below are some more seagull-pictures. My camera eyepiece showed some remarkable views of sea, beach, and animals.
Muschels in die Schnee – hat ich noch nicht eher so gesehen.
Shells in the snow – again, something I had not seen before.
Marjan macht es sich gemütlich auf das Schnee-Strand. “Kalt oder nicht, Strand bleibt Strand”, sagte sie.
Marjan makes herself comfortable on the snow-beach. “Cold or not, a beach remains a beach”, she said.

Again I learnt something new – and it only took me about 60 years to learn about sea gulls!!
The photos are breathtakingly beautiful. I never realized sand could look so lovely….
Even if the dogs didn’t care about the surroundings they at least took time to smile nicely to your camera!
Thank you for taking us with you to this wonderful beach! You have proved that a beach can be visited even in winter time and give us great experiences.

Oh how delightful–a wonderful walk along the beach in winter–most exhilarating! Such beautiful photos–of the sand, the smiling dogs, and the sea gulls. This is a first for me too to see seagulls actually catching the shellfish in the surf. They are certainly efficient! Thank you so much for sharing your and Marjan’s walk with us–it was most enjoyable….

My fav ~ the seashells in the snow photo ~ I give it ‘award-winning,’ but I enjoyed the entire walk.

Wenn es schon keinen richtigen Sommer gibt, warum nicht gleich den Winter ‘auspacken’ und das auch noch mir atemberaubend schönen Bildern, auf denen viel Sonne und frische Luft ‘zu sehen’ ist. Beste Frans, toen ik deze foto’s zag, had ik ineens een onverklaarbaar gevoel dat ik meer dan één dikke trui nodig had. En Marjan heeft natuurlijk gelijk: een strand blijft een strand. je foto’s zijn geweldig. En een strand met sneeuw is inderdaad buitengewoon en daarom ben ik je uitermate dankbaar dat je ons laat deelgenoot zijn in dit genoegen.
