AnotherSusan has visited the polar bears in the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. Here’s her report:

Aurora and Anana feel like connections to our Knut, as they (along with half-brother Nikita) were born at Toledo Zoo the same year he made his appearance in Bear-lin.

Here are some photos from the 15th of September; Aurora and her twins were out.

When we arrived at the zoo this morning – the 16th of September, Amelia Gray was in the water playing, whilst mom Anana relaxed in the sun.

Amelia is very active, and likes to dive down so zoo guests in the glass enclosed viewing area underneath the main area above can get a good look at her. She also likes to sit her round little bottom on the “ceiling” of the glass room and look at her other visitors!

When we came back for another visit with the bears before leaving this afternoon, Anana decided to have some play time in the water with her not-so-little one. She is a beautiful lady.

  1. Dear Susan,

What a lovely surprise to see a report even from the Columbus Zoo in Knuti’s Weekly!

The mamas and their daughters seem to be doing fine. I loved to see the cubbies ‘performing’ by the glass. I’m sure they charm all the visitors when they keep diving so close to them.

Anana and Aurora are beautiful polar bear ladies and their cubbies are, of course, adorable!

Thank you so much for sharing your visit with us!

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Dear Susan
On this bitter and sad day your report reminds me why
wr go to visit the Polar Bears.

  3. Die Kinder und die Mutter spielen sehr schön. .

  4. Dear Mervi and dear Susan!
Thank you for these heartwarming pics of Aurora, Anana and their little/ not so little ones.

On a sad day like this it is much needed to understand that life goes on – and that life is beautiful in spite of all tragic occurrences.
Both mums and their kids obviously have fun and are doing well.
My favorite is the second photo. So cute – well done!
These pics can help to charm away melancholy – after a while…

  5. Liebe Susan,
zwei Bärinnen und ihren Kindern beim Spielen zuschauen zu können ist ein großes Glück für jeden Eisbärfan.
Herzlichen Dank, fürs Zeigen in KWM.
    Liebe Grüße Moni K

  6. Dear Susan,
I am very glad you brought us the pictures from the Columbus zoo. It is wonderful ti see two mother playing with their cubs.

  7. What a nice surprise it was to meet you again – after a long period of time of absence –
ind ‘Die Knuipe’ and now, due to MERVI’s efforts (Thanks!) also in ‘KWM’.

Thank you very much for your report from your visit at AURORA and her twin’s place,
    ‘The Columbus Zoo/Ohio’.

It would be nice to meet you more often again – here or there! 🙂 .

  8. Dear Susan, what a pleasure to meet you again. Thank you so much for sharing your report and pics with us. The mothers and (no longer small) babies are just precious. And while reading and looking at the pics, I had to smile: it seems that all polar bears are blessed with a well roundish boomsie, whatever their age.

  9. Liebe Mervi,

danke für die schönen Bilder von Anona und ihren süßen Kindern.

Hier in Ohio haben die Bärchen scheinbar eine schöne Anlage, mit viel Wiese. Da kann man auch schön herum tollen.

    Liebe Grüße
