Sisu’s Winter Wonderland

21.11.2017 – Photos by Marko Junttila, Ranua Wildlife Park

Terve! Hello, friends! Oh bear, we certainly have a real Winter Wonderland here in Ranua! After the photos in this report were taken it has been snowing heavily and we’ve got no less than 30 centimeters more snow! How about that!!

Hihihii, because I’m always wearing my Winter camouflage dress it’s very easy for me to hide from mama.

Mama is often wondering where her little boy is. I must say I’m not so amused by her calling me ‘her little boy’ but I guess mamas are like that …. they don’t notice their cubs grow fast ….

Mama, can you see me now?

Even mama is so white that it’s difficult to see her but I could recognize her sweet nose anytime and anywhere!

We love to take walks in the snow ….

….. and on the ice.

As you can see I’m a very happy polar bear enjoying the Winter.

Of course, I just have to tease mama every now and then. She doesn’t mind at all ….  I must say she has the patience of an angel. 🙂

Even our big ball is covered with snow which makes it even heavier than before.

I test my new technics to move it.

Oh, it’s not so easy so I must take a break now.

Oh, I see something ….. I leave the stupid ball. I must put it on diet so it gets lighter!!

Let’s see if I can find some treasures.

There’s definitely something here …..

Oh yeah, there was something eatable here. You must agree we have a very good freezer!

After a good meal it’s nice to have a sip of cold water.

We don’t need extra ice cubes …..

Rolling in the snow must be one of the funniest things in the world! You really have to try it!

I think it’s time for a little nap now. By the way – have you ever seen a cleaner boomsie??

The snow makes the stones feel quite soft so I can use them as pillows.

I don’t have to dream of a white Christmas – we already have all the whiteness we need!  🙂

Here’s a short video, too, for you!

From Ranua with love and snow,

Your pal Sisu

  1. Liebe Mervi,

  2. Dear Mervi and Marko!
Again you brought fabulous photos from Ranua and it´s beautiful winter season.
I´m happy for that perky little birthday child Sisu and his mum Venus having so much fun in the snow already.
But I agree with Britta-Gudrun. I´m relieved I can watch these pics while sitting in a warm and cosy room…

  3. Dear Mervi,
Beautiful bear, beautiful snow. These photos are a delight. Sisu is a lucky bear to live in such a magical place.

    Thank you,

  4. Lieber Marko & Mervi

  6. Dear Mervi!
Sisu and Venus enjoy the snow. You wrote a wonderful story to the pictures.

  7. Thanks dear Mervi for a wonderful story from the winterwonderland in Ranua.
And thanks to Ranua for the wonderful pictures.

    Liebe Gruesse Moni K

  9. Dear Mervi and Marko
Your words and photos have captured the joy
of Sisu and Venus at the snowy and icy world
around them. A wonderful place for Polar Bears.

  10. Dear Mervi
    Dear Marko

That´s great !!! So much snow for the bears !
Wonderful pictures and the video is brillant!

    Hugs Anita

Have fun, dear SISU and Mum VENUS!

  12. I just hads another look on Marko JUNTTILA great pics. Thanks again. They are simply hilarious.
SISU is so interesting in his activities and in the same time he is cute,, even though he’s got already a rather ‘big boy’ in the meantime.

Now, that it is his 1st birthday on this rainy Saturday, I will realize what I thought when I watched the pics again: they are so wonderful but it’s rather difficult to see everything because of all that white. So, dear SISU for your birthday I don’t want to get in competition with your godmother MERVI whi is the undoubted ‘queen of collages with you as protagonist’ but I just make you the gift of a colored frame because I trust one will be able to admire you even more as you can be seen more clear then. We’ll see. Just a moment, dear!

  13. Here we go:

  14. Liebe Mervi, lieber Marko.

  15. dear Mervi,
thank you so much for these wonderful snow pictures
    terve dear Sisu,
yes I can see, this is YOUR weather, so sweet how you and Mama have joy in the snow and on the ice, enjoy this great winter wonderland, big paw waves and all the best to you and to your Mama
    dear greetings to all

  16. Dear Mervi & Marko,

Thank you for sharing charming Sisu enjoying winter pleasures to the fullest.
It’s easy to tell he’s having lots of fun!!!

    Hugs and pawwaves

  17. Dear Marko and Mervi, how lovely to see the pics and little video of Sisu-Nalle and his mammy in the snow. And it goes without saying that he is a master in hiding. Luckily mammy is smart enough to always find her son. Must be because of his roundish belly and boomsie. One thing is for sure: snow and ice is what polar bears need.
