Who turned the northern lights on?

27.3.2018 – Photos by Marko Junttila, Ranua Wildlife Park

Terve taas! Hello again! Here in Ranua we still have a wonderful Winter so I’ll be hunting Easter eggs under the snow.

I’ve been ‘rehearsing’ with a little help of a twig. Even though my mama is a very innovative polar bear I don’t think her hiding places will be too difficult to find.

Mama’s looking for suitable places for my surprises ….

She’s a beautiful lady don’t you agree? Her fur is so white and fluffy that I almost need sun glasses to watch it hehehee. 🙂

No wonder I’m such a handsome guy having a mother like this!!

When it was getting darker we suddenly saw something very mysterious happening in the sky.

Just look at mama’s face – I could see a piece of bread in her open mouth but she was too surprised to swallow it.

Oh bear! What a sight!

Mama, did you turn these lights on?

– No, dear boy – these are called the northern lights and they just appear every now and then. I can do a lot of things but I can’t turn them on or off.

– Are you sure, mama or are just kidding? You’re so clever … I wouldn’t be surprised if you had created these lights.

– Sisu, you’re flattering me! They say the lights move if you whistle. We can’t whistle but we can try some growling ….

Mama and I growled as loud as we could and can you imagine – the lights really were moving!

We have snow, we have northern lights and we have each other. What more could mama and I hope!

You have already met our friend wolverine a couple of times and here are new photos of him. I wonder what he was looking for …..

Well, it looks like he was satisfied with what he saw …. 🙂

What made this utter so snowy?

He was digging caves in the snow and did it very well, too!

Our ‘house cat’ was having a nap. I must say it looks very cute – almost like me ….

That was all for this time so I just sign this ‘letter’ with my paw prints. I wish you all a Happy Easter!

  1. Liebe Mervi,

  2. Dear Mervi, dear Marko!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures from the snow Ranua. Ranzo and Venus enjoy the snow. Venus is a very beautiful lady.
The northern lights are very impressive.
It is great to see wolverine and lynx enjoying the snow too.
    Hugs
    Ludmila

  3. Dear Mervi,

What a wonderful story! And how beautiful are these photos!
Sisu is one very cute little bear: he looks always so happy…Not every polar bear doesn’t have so much white snow…He can really be proud of his mother too.
    Thank you for this report!

    Greetings
    Evi

  4. Dear Mervi and Marko!
Again you brought us some beautiful impressions from the Ranua Wildlife Park in the north of Finland: happy and very goodlooking polar bears, gorgeous northern lights and a few smart neighbours of Venus and Sisu.

Young children often believe their parents are kind of magicians and responsible even for the weather. Perhaps sometimes they are…

I loved the pics of the wolverine who has to check if he´s a boy or a girl or if everything is still there.
    Simply hilarious!

Thank you for these frosty and wonderful Easter greetings!
It would be no surprise at all if many children in Germany this year will have to search for their Easter eggs in the snow too…
But spring will come – finally!

    Hugs
    Anke

  5. Dear Mervi and Marko
Sisu and you have brought us a beautiful story for Easter.
Polar Bears growling softly at the Northern Lights, a vision
    for us all.
Venus deserves the compliments and looks splendid.
Ranua is a magical place also for wolverine and lynx

  6. Lieber Marko, liebe Mervi

Die Fotos sind wieder fantastisch !
    Insbesondere die Aufnahmen des
    Nordlichts sind beeindruckend. 🙂
Der Winter lässt Sisu und die
    anderen Tiere noch nicht los.

    Herzliche Grüße
    Chris 🙂

  7. Liebe Mervi!

  8. TERVE! – Wonderful(!) boy(!?) with wonderful mother(!), and with even very beautiful neighbors and to top it all a super-wonderful, very special sky. We will never be able to see something comparable in our areas . . .

Thanks to you, Marko Junttila and your home park, the RANUA WILDLIFE PARK – and not to forget your auntie and Godmother MERVI whi assisted you so well for appropriate words and who did all the editorial work to make YOUR article and pics appear in ‘KWM’!
