My second visit to Nora in Vienna

May 21st, 2018 | By | Category: Nora and Ranzo in Vienna

21.5.2018 by Evi from Tallinn

On the 10th of May I flew to Vienna again to visit “my” little favourite – the polar bear Nora for the second time. Now she’s together with the Finnish male polar bear Ranzo.

I also brought some toys for the bears (the little balls and pipes – familiar to them) with me.

It was a great pleasure for me to see Nora finally so calm and happy! Last time – the end of January – Nora was a bit nervous.

I spent one week in Vienna and visited the Zoo Schönbrunn every day. The behavior of the polar bears was different every day just like the weather in Vienna.

Because Nora loves the morning swimming I often found her in the pool when I arrived the zoo in the morning. While Nora was swimming in the pool, Ranzo walked little bit nervously near the pool.

Come on, Ranzo!!

After some minutes even Ranzo jumped into the water and they began to play together. Then Ranzo went out of the pool and Nora called him back – this happened several times.

Floating on my back is my speciality. 🙂

Romeo and Juliet of Vienna enjoying their water games.

Pas de deux – or something like that …. 🙂

The barrel is an interesting toy even under the water.

Synchronized under water swimming

The northern temperament was noticable: both bears liked each other very much but their relationship seemed to me very delicate. Ranzo loves Nora and he does everything like a gentleman – or should I say gentlebear – to make Nora happy.

Nora is very young and enjoys playing so much.

The relations of our bears reminded me of the relationship of Romeo and Juliet – clean and delicate!

At noon the bears had some rest and played again in the afternoon.

  1. Dear Evi,

It looks like Nora recognized the very special visitor – she looks very curious and excited. 🙂

I’m sure meeting your favourite bear is always very emotional. I love the photo of you and Nora! You both look so happy!!

There’s no doubt your gifts were appreciated by both Nora and Ranzo. You’re spoiling them but they’re worth spoiling …. 🙂

I’m glad to see both bears have such shining white furs – our Romeo and Juliet make such a beautiful couple.

It’s interesting to notice that almost all male polar bears in the zoos are very gentle and treat their lady friends with love and even with great respect. Ranzo is no exception but, of course, he’s so much in love. 🙂

Your photos are fantastic – it’s impossible to pick a favourite. Maybe the one where it looks like Nora is playing a big flute. 🙂

Thank you so much for this charming report exclusively for Knuti’s Weekly! I’m both happy and proud to publish it!

    Hugs from Mervi

  2. Dear Evi

Thank you for your great report from Vienna.
The two get along, the two like each other.
    That´s very nice!

  3. Dear Evi

Thank you for the great report from Vienna.
Nora and Ranzo are a nice couple. 🙂 They
are so playful and their fur looks white and
fluffy. I especially like the underwater shots.
It was a good idea to visit the bears again !

  4. Dear Evi and Mervi!
Thank you for these lovely pics from this beautiful polar bear love couple in Vienna.
Evi, you took wonderful pics and I can imagine how glad you were to see Nora and Ranzo so happy together.

It is always a great pleasure for the giver to watch the presentees play with the brought gifts.

Considering the photos you must have had a gorgeous week in Vienna and I´m happy you found the bears in such a good shape.
I love the ” Floating on the back” pics and the ” Pas de deux” in the water – and of course all the other pics.
It´s quite obvious the furry “Romeo and Juliet” were having fun…

  5. Dear Evi,

you have a longing for Nora because she was your babybear in Tallinn. I can understand that well. Nora seems comfortable in Vienna and with Ranzo, that will make you happy.
Thanks for your loving report about Romeo and Juliet and the Pas de deux photo I like best.

    Best wishes

  6. Liebe Evi,

  7. Liebe Evi!

  8. Dear Evi!
Thank you for the news from Vienna. I am very glad that Nora and Ranzo like each other. Nora is still a very young girl.

  9. Liebe Evi!

Danke für diesen schönen Bericht und die bezaubernden Bilder, de Baeren schauen so gut aus.
    Besonders Ranzo beim Rückenschwimmen!

    Liebe Grüße, Erika

  10. Dear Evi, thank you for this report and the pics. It is good to see that both young bears do give each other sufficient time to get used to each other and most importantly, to like and play with each other. It is wonderful to see how relaxed both are during their antics. And for the rest, TJA, they are both still young so let us wait what the future will bring for them and for us.

  11. Dear Evi
Thank you for your words and photos about the young couple Nora and Ranzo.
You show us how delicate the relationship is. Of course we are talking about two of the most
dangerous and strongest animals on Earth. Yet they show each other a love and respect we humans
    could learn from.
Polar Bear females are so special that the males are completely in love with them as soon as they meet. You only have to look at Nora to see why Ranzo is in love. But Nora has the final say. We are so lucky to be able to know them.

  12. Dear Britta-Gudrun,

It’s true, that I have a longing for Nora. I miss her so much!
Here, in Tallinn I visited her very often, for four years.
Last year, when was built the new Polarium for our polar bears and became clear, that Nora couldn’t get there,
    I was very sad…
Now I’m so glad: Nora lives really in a good zoo, where she is being dealt with. She looks relaxed and happy!
I cannot say the same about our bears in our new Polarium!
Also is nice, that Nora is just together with the Finnish male polar bear Ranzo!

Thank You all, dear readers, for these hearty comments!
Of course, the special thanks to Mervi!!

    With greetings from Tallinn

  13. Liebe Evi,
