Here’s another nostalgic contribution to the Memory Lane:

Hello fans! How time flies – it’s already August! I have always liked autumn but I will meet this autumn with mixed feelings. On the 22nd of September it will be exactly one year since my Daddy had to leave me. I miss him so much – I would like him to be ehere and see what a gorgeous, clever bear I am today. Well, I’m sure he sees me anyway and hopefully is very proud of his little Knuti. I’m also a very brave bear so I try not to be sad but cherish all the wonderful memories in my heart.

People say I’m looking more and more like papa Lars. I must say I’m very proud of my beautiful beard – it makes me look like a man of the word. What do you think?

This Aussie Dog really is a stubborn thing! I’m inclined to believe it’s not from Australia but from Finland. You know how stubborn the Finns are – just look at Auntie Mervi, hihii…..

Hmm, it looks very promising now….

I’ll give it another try….

Oh my, that ‘thingie’ really makes me tired!

Anybody there? Good – it makes me feel secure to know my fans are my guardian angels – in case it should be thunderstorm.

I’m already very excited about my monthly birthday on the 5th of September! I’ve heard rumours that my fans are coming from all over the world to celebrate with me.

I have to look really good when my fans arrive – not that it’s any problem, hahaa….if you know what I mean.

I’m King Knuti sitting on my thron. I guess I have to practice a little to get a really majestetic look. As you all know I can wave with my paw better than Queen Elizabeth! I know – the Queen calls her ‘waving aid’ a hand….how funny is that??!!

Hasn’t Auntie Doris taken beautiful photos of me? Here I am admiring the August moon.

That’s all for now, friends. You’d better start packing and checking that you have the hotel vouchers, railway/airline tickets, euros and the most important thing – your annual zoo tickets ready!

Your Knuti

  1. Dear Mervi!
Oh, what a sweetheart he was! Thank you for taking us along the memory lane again.
It was just wonderful to watch and love this exceptional bear boy. One of a kind!
The memory remains and it makes me laugh and cry the same time. Mixed feelings!

There was an extra stabbing through the heart when I learned the polar bear who was shot in Spitzbergen a week ago was only four years old – like Knut – when he died, just a boy…

  2. Wonderful photos (thanks to DORIS and to JESSIE WEBB – btw: does somebody know how Jessie is nowadays and whether he is still in Berlin?) and lovely accomapnying words by MERVI. Can one believe the ‘production of this contribution was already acieved 9 (NINE) years ago!!??

THANKS for the bitter-sweet memory, dear MERVI.

    – – –
What a nice coincidence it is that exactly the prominent AUSSI DOG TOY one can see on Jessie’s pics is also to be (hardly) seen in the collage – very weak so . . .( see right hand part in the bottom of the pic).

  3. Dear Mervi,
Thanks for the memory of Knut in 2009. He will never forget.
    Bear hugs

  4. dear Mervi,
thank you so much for the sweet memories,
liebe Dumba, vielen Dank für die schöne Monatsgeburtstagskarte
Knut für immer in meinem Herzen
    dear greetings to all

  5. Dear Mervi and Dumba
The memories of those years are a decade old but still as vivid.
The shooting of a 4 year old Polar because of tourism convinces me that for all the problems of bears in zoos, it is kinder to visit them and leave wild bears in peace.

  6. Liebe Mervi,

  7. Dear Mervi,
thanks a lot for another walk down memory lane.

    Dear Dumba,
    thanks for the sweet collage.

Also I was sorry to hear about the polarbear – killed in Spitsbergen/Svalbard. When I visited the island the tourists were told, that the bears were “the kings of the island”, and I remember one evening, where we did not visit a place as planned, while we could see a mother with 2 cubs. We spent the whole night in the bay on the water, where we could admire the bears from the boat. The bears were “the kings of the island” and we were visitors and we had to respect them. That was 2006,

    Hugs Inge

  8. Dear Mervi,
thank you for this story from the happy time with Knut.
    I miss Doris too.
