Sisu met ‘another him’!

13.9.2018 – Photos by Marko Junttila, Ranua Wildlife Park

Terve! Hello! Dear friends, it’s been a while since I wrote to you but now it’s time again!

The Autumn is a lovely season here in northern Finland. The leaves of the trees and the bushes are flaming in all possible colours. It’s called ‘ruska’ in Finnish. This ruska season also means that the Winter is coming closer.

I know it may be too early to talk about snow but the fact is that it’s possible we’ll see white flakes dancing in the air quite soon here in Ranua!

Well, for the time being my mama and I are enjoying the Autumn. As you can see I found my string of big pearls and I love to play with it. I guess the keepers had hidden it somewhere ….. It was very wise of them because now the toy feels like new! 🙂

Juggling with one ball takes it’s bear but here we have three balls chained to each other!

I think I can manage quite well but I really need to put a more artistic touch to my act!

Oooops! I almost got knocked out by a ball ….

Here we go again! My name Sisu means ‘guts’ or ‘go’ so I’m not a bear who gives up easily!

This is quite a nice pose don’t you agree?

This photo shows a little of what is meant by ‘ruska’. The birdie doesn’t look so happy – maybe it’s colour blind ….

The owl family has a new young member. It looks very cute.

I guess this is the mama owl and her baby.

As Teddybärenmutti wrote in her report my neighbour Malla is an architect and even a skilful builder. Maybe she’s preparing a Winter palace in order to have a comfortable place for her hibernation period which will soon begin.

Jemma is a bear girl full of energy so I lent her my big ball – she wants to show everybody how strong she is.

Our beautiful manul has now a name – MORTTI. He really looks like Mortti don’t you think? 🙂 On Saturday the 8th of September when the name was announced the first 100 visitors were treated with a Sisu-chocolate bar. It’s very yammy – otherwise I wouldn’t have allowed them to put my name on the bars!!

Oh bear, something very strange happened! I met another me!!

When I moved the ‘other me’ moved, too! Can you imagine!!??

OK, the ‘other me’ looks very friendly so I decided to stay at the bar and have a drink with him.

Now it’s time to say ‘moi, moi’ to you but hopefully I’ll be back soon. Maybe with some snowy news – who knows …

Love from your pal Sisu

  1. Dear Sisu and Mervi
What a lovely way to greet Autumn. I can imagine Sisu needed his courage to face such a big strange bear.
Malia and Morti are getting ready for the Winter. The owl family look already prepared, but I think the other bird wishes it was still Summer.
I love Sisu playing with the three balls. Polar Bear are so fond of using their paws.
Hope we see lots of Sisu and his friends

  2. TERVE, dear skilled ball-player and entertainer SISU!

Thank you for letting us have again a report from your beautiful home and for telling about your and your neighbors’ activities AND for sending more photos taken by your skiled ‘court-photographer’ Marko JUNTTILA. Again, he made great shots from you, the not so happy looking big ‘birdie’, the charming owls, the busy female bear architect MALA, JEMMA tinkering with your big ball, and the fluffy manul for sure thankful it has gotten such a nice name in the meantime: ‘MORTTI’. . . . Everything seems to be OK in your life and surrounding/environment. . . . Did you like the one you saw and with whom you took a drink right away?? . . Believe me: you should . . . AND . . . you can! 😉 🙂

BTW: I love ‘white flakes dancing in the air’ as well but contrary to your dreams and wishes:
for me the sunny and warm weather could last more longer – my favorite season of the year is and was in general AUTUMN; however, I have to admit I loved this very long summer even it was too hot for my normally feeling at ease. Thinking of the probably forthcoming about 4 motnhs of grey, wet, cold, and the missing of green I would prefer again a summer that lasts near to 5 months! (I am only sorry for the farmers, the ill and weak ones in the animal as well as in the human world – and for sure everybody has to pay a price – earlier or later, in one or in another way).

Thank you, dear MERVI, for having helped your 100%-A-lovely to the present report with most beautiful pics.

  3. Dear Mervi and Marko!
The pictures of playing Sisu are wonderful. He enjoyed the 3 balls 🙂
I hope the young member of the owl family is ready for the cold weather.
Malla worked hard. The winter den has to be comfortable 🙂
Jemma has a ball in the proper size. Manul is beautiful.
I think Sisu was happy about his reflexion.

  4. Dear Mervi and Marko!
Thank you for the delightful pics from Ranua.

Sisu is a cute and playful bear boy. He is very skilful with any kind of toy and looks quite great while playing with the chained together balls in the water.
It´s understandable he looks forward to snowflakes on a winters day but all in its proper time! First there has to be a colourful autumn with decent temperatures and a wonderful atmosphere!

The baby snow owl is so sweet with beautiful eyes.

It is great Malla and Jemma enjoy themselves before it is time to go to sleep. Hopefully Malla will manage to make her den a cosy place for nice dreams.

Did I already mention that I love the grumpy looking but beautiful Manuls? 😉

Mervi, you seem to have a great empathy for polar bear kids. This must have been exactly what Sisu thought when he noticed that smart image of himself on the water surface…

  5. Liebe Mervi,

der sportlich SISU ist wunderbar und natürlich allerliebst, wie er sein hübsches Spiegelbild betrachtet.
Jetzt kann er noch nach Herzenslust planschen und soll das auch ausnutzen, denn die Winter
in Ranua dauern lange.

  6. terve dear Sisu
oh these wonderful pearls I remember iksi, kaksi kolme
