Sisu loves the wonderful whiteness

10.1.2019 – Photos by Marko Junttila, Ranua Wildlife Park

Terve! Hello! It’s me, your pal Sisu again! I hope you’ve all had a good start of this year just like my mama and I have.

Because many people think ‘kaamos’ (the time with short days) is a very dull time I want to show you again a nice photo. Does it look dull to you? I think not! The blue hour makes the whiteness have many shades of different colours. Simply beautiful in my opinion.

I’m glad to start the first newsletter of 2019 telling you that we’ve got more snow and everything is simply wonderful!

I love to stroll around in our enclosure and enjoy the snow under my paws.

Have you noticed the white flowers on the trees? Just kidding – of course, I know it’s snow! 🙂

Last year I didn’t know so much but now I’m a big boy and know these flowers will melt away when the Spring comes. However, I hope it doesn’t hurry ….

There are many almost similar photos in this newsletter but Marko has again taken such beautiful pics of us so I simply couldn’t choose!

Doesn’t my fur look fantastic? I hope you don’t mind my saying that I’m quite happy about my good looks! Why be too modest?!

I think I heard something …. maybe it’s mama?

Sometimes it’s difficult to find mama but I can always smell her. As you know we polar bears have an excellent sense of smell.

Hi, ma! What have you’ve been up to this morning?

Have you any plans for the rest of the day or shall we just keep strolling?

Mama, I know! Let’s measure the sizes of our mouths. I think mine may be bigger than yours now!

OK! Almost equal but soon even my mouth will be bigger than yours. I’ll be a mighty polar bear just like papa Manasse and my big brother Ranzo. Talking of Ranzo – I hope he and Nora have snow, too, in Vienna.

I’ve shown you photos of howling wolves and singing dholes in my previous newsletters but this time mama and I want to show you our eminent wolf imitation. Maybe we should arrange a song contest – the polar bears vs the wolves? We already ‘produce’ very nice and loud noise but our coreography needs some rehearsing.

I have not so much more to tell you. We are happy polar bears hoping for a long Winter. I know the two legged creatures don’t agree with us but who cares!!!

The crow looks extra gorgeous sitting on a snow covered tree branch.

Even though it’s very cold this time of the year we have many daily visitors. Thank you all for coming!

Bye bye for now! I’m going for a walkabout again but before I go I wish all the readers a very pleasant Winter time!

The photos are simply fantastic, especially the
first one with the special winterlight-impression.
Thats what winter should look like ! 😀
Sisu and Venus seem to be very satisfied with
the snow condition. What thinks the raven ?
Maybe he want to steal some peace of meat.
    Visitors have outfits like Micheline-männeken.
No wonder, if we imagine the temperatures.
Hard to believe, that the landscape will be
green again in spring and summer !?

  2. Dear Marko and Mervi,
the pictures of Sisu ans Venus in the snow are wonderful. The picture of the blue hour is impressive. The colours are interesting.

  3. Dear Mervi and Marko
The Winter world of Ranua is so magical, thank you both
Sisu and Venus are looking good

  4. TERVE! – Du süßer Knopf! (ähm, darf ich das überhaupt noch sagen oder fühlst Du Dich schon zuu erwachsen für solche Anreden!??

At least I do believe you don’t oppose if I say: you are a real handsome young guy – even more in all this beautiful white stuff around you nd with those little contrasts (e.g. the naked dark brnaches).

What you and ‘Uncle Marko JUNTTILA’ showed us in the first photo is not only beautiful, it’s unbelievably fairytalelike gorgeous/hilarious/magnificant/breathtaking – you name it! . . . I can very well understand your auntie MERVI’s longing for her hom country, especially in this time of the year!

Thank you both/ you three(!) for having spoiled us again in ‘KWM’ with your glorious impressions and minds!

  5. Dear, may be the motives are quite similar this time BUT the effect is a different and ALWAYS a beautiful in each and any of every shot! . . . GREAT! . . . Thank you for showing!

  6. Dear Mervi and Marko!
Thank you for these wonderful winterly impressions in Ranua.

The colours in the first pic are simply breathtaking and anything but dull!

I´m happy for Venus and Sisu that they do enjoy their favourite season to the fullest!
They look marvellous in their thick winter coats.

I´m impressed by the many visitors and the photograph you took of them. They must have had a magical feeling at this place. A winter´s tale!

  7. Liebe Mervi,

  11. Dear Sisu, your Winter wonderland is looking like a real polar bear dream. Actually, you have all your little heart needs: a lovely mother, lots of snow, tons of decent food and excellent keepers to pamper you. I hope that the rest of your life may be like this.

  12. Lieber Marko, liebe Mervi,

Vielen Dank.

Liebe Grüße aus dem schneefreien Berlin.

  13. Dear Marko, dear Mervi,
