Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.

After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women’s Day on February 28, 1909 in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference suggested a Women’s Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

Today, International Women’s Day is a public holiday in some countries and largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.

In this magazine we even want to honour all females in the animals’ world.

  1. Dear MERVI

That’s really very, very charming. Thank you very much for the little lesson in history and for all those more than super-cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute- and awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww-pics.

In Berlin the ‘Internationaler Frauentag’ is an official holiday (for the first time – at least in the West)!

Enjoy YOUR day, all you females in the animal and human world!

    Die Parade der tierischen Blumengratulanten
ist sehr fantasievoll. čÖé Ich w├╝nschte, wir
    br├Ąuchten keinen Frauentag und die
    Gleichberechtigung w├Ąre Realit├Ąt !

    Chris čÖé

  3. Liebe Mervi,

  4. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for this wonderful collection of heartwarming pics. I loved each and every of them!
My favourite sweethearts are the bear and the little mouse(?) at the end.

My thoughts about the International Women┬┤s Day are somehow ambivalent since I┬┤m a woman every day of the year…I┬┤m afraid one single day does not much to change gender-based discrimination and the lack of equal opportunities for women. But the reasons to install that special day are quite understandable. They will not vanish so fast…
I wish all women a fine day and some wishes to come true!

  5. Liebe Mervi,

  9. Dear Mervi

I think that Polar Bear females are an example to all of us for their strength, courage and intelligence.
