Sisu is waiting for the Summer

30.5.2019 – Photos by Marko Junttila, Ranua Wildlife Park

Terve! Hello! It’s me – your pal Sisu writing to you again. I’ve been told that the Summer should be here now but I’m still waiting. I hope it will come by bus or by train because that kind of travelling is more environmental friendly than flying. So I’ve heard! The Summer can leave the flying to the birds!

Of course, I must tell you how proud I am for the Finnish ice hockey team that won the WC 2019! As you may know I’m a faithful supporter.

I have hired a special agent to look for the Summer signs …

While I’m playing in the water my friend Agent Wolverine is spying. Did you know the wolverines are excellent tree climbers?

Sisu, the mosquitos are coming ….

….. just kidding! 🙂 They come later in June. We don’t bother us but the two legged creatures aren’t so happy about the tiny vampyres.

As you can see the trees are turning green now but I can’t see the Summer bus yet.

Thank you, Agent Wolverine for the Summer bulletine! Luckily this information isn’t classified so I can make it public.

Now I show you what a big fish I ALMOST caught in our pool. It was this big!!

OK, maybe I’m exaggerating a little but I caught something anyway.

I even found a nice half eaten apple! I hope you notice my elegant table manners.

Balancing an apple on the paw takes a lot of concentration!

Hmm, maybe I should eat this now ….

It still smells very ‘appleish’.

Yammy, yammy!

I love to play hide and seek with the keepers and the visitors. It’s so funny to hear them calling me when they can’t see me.

I make it a bit easier ….

Now you can freely admire me!

As usual I like to present some of my co-inhabitants in the park.

Malla is wondering if she woke up too early.

I still feel quite sleepy!

But because so many visitors have come to see me I really must stay awake.

The deer calf is very cute. The mother is changing the Winter coat to the Summer coat so she doesn’t look very presentable for the time being. Don’t you worry, mama deer, soon you will look gorgeous!

What a beauty! Did it jump out from a fairy tale book? 🙂

This swan couple is very much in love!

I think the utter looks like a crumpy cat but he’s a merry little fellow.

Bye bye for now! I hope to be back soon with all my friends!

Knuti’s Weekly wishes all the animals and their keepers a happy Summer time!

  1. Dear Marko and Mervi what a wonderful story from Sisu and his friends. Malia’s name reminds me of one of President Obama’s daughter’s names.
I love Wolverines (Vielfrass is not as nice a name) and am delighted to see the lovely photos.

  2. Hello, Sisu! Nice to see you and read about your doings again!
It seems to me you are fine and you play a lot! I wonder how good concentration you have – this Apple trick is wonderful!
Your Estonian friend Aron greets you and says that he’s also very happy for the Finnish ice hockey team!

Dear Mervi and Marko, thank you for this very lovely story!

    Greetings from Tallinn,

  3. Dear Mervi and Marko!
Thank you for these gorgeous pics and the humorous story !
What a funny idea that summer might come by bus… Sisu is a handsome and imaginative young polar bear with excellent table manners. Every polar bear girl must be glad to get him as a partner.
To play hide and seek with the visitors is certainly great fun for him. They must be happy when he decides to appear again…
The remainder photos of the tree climbing wolverine, of sweet sleepy Malla, the lovely deer calf, the swan love couple and the cute utter waving Good Bye are simply beautiful.

  4. Thank you very much dear Mervi and Marko.
Best wishes to Sisu and his friends.

  5. Liebe Mervi,

  6. Dear Mervi
    Dear Sisu

Now it finally seems to be here, the longing summer awaiting.
Your table manners are very cultivated, dear Sisu.
    Have fun in summer!

    Hugs from Munich

  7. TERVE! you happy guy who seems always feel contented, no matter what kind of weather is outside or what kind of enrichment and food is available. You are simply ALWAYS in a good mood. Right!?

You seem to be a well educated and well informed bear – once more I am impressed.
Did you have a secret meeting with GRETA THUNBERG by any chance!? 😉 🙂

If the weather seems not to be right your ‘cup of tea’ at the moment you have a quick solution to get in good mood again in next to no time: you simply switchs to sports. As a right Finn you love sports, of cours – active and passive I guess. . . . Good you have your neighbor Mr. or Mrs Wolverine who can keep an eye out for this and that and does keep you informed!

An ‘appleish’ scent is a good one, isn’t it!? . . . BTW: Marko JUNTTILA again made very nice pics and your aunty MERVI supported you best in subtitling and reporting in well chosen words 🙂

THANK YOU! – – Please say ‘Hi’ to Mrs MALLA, the deer, the swans, the funny utter, your beautiful wolverine and any other neighbors you may meet and/or just see, inclusive of Mama VENUS.

  8. terve my dear Sisu,
finally the summer comes also to your region and we can see how you and all your dear friends are enjoying this. You are looking great, please tell Malla that she is so sweet when she still is feeling a bit sleepy. I wish you a wonderful summer time with much fun and joy and many dear visitors
    dear Mervi and dear Marko
thank you very much for all the lovely pictures and the entertaining words
    dear greetings and good wishes
    Filomena .
