12.3.2020 – Photos by Jutta Kirchner

The Tiergarten Schönbrunn is closed until the 3rd of April. This is the announcement:

However, Finja and her mother Nora are happily unaware of the evil virus so here they are:

Servus! Tere! Terve! It’s me – your Finja again. As you notice I already speak several languages: German (Austrian style!), Estonian, Finnish and, naturally,  Polarbearish!

Mama told me the importance of vitamines so I’m learning how to eat vegetables.

The lettuce and the carots look very yammy but so far I prefer mama’s milk bar. The milk is excellent nourishment for me and mama’s belly is the most comfortable café chair in the world! 🙂

Ooops! A piece of lettuce is stuck between my teeth ….

I must watch how mama eats and learn!

The ice bomb is a piece of cake, hihihii …. I don’t have to use my teeth, my tongue does the job!

After a good meal Nora thought it was time for a swimming tour. Finja didn’t hesitate but followed mama.

Look, I’m in the water! I must say it’s very wet but baby bear don’t care!

I’m staying here and watch my mama swimming and diving. She’s a real master swimmer and soon I will be a master, too!

Do I dare to taste the water …..

…. of course, I dare! After all I’m a daughter of an Estonian Queen and a Finnish Viking!!

My mother’s greatest fan Evi from Tallinn has visited us.  I don’t think I’m totally wrong saying that she loves me, too!

Papa Ranzo is doing fine. Maybe he feels a bit lonely but the keepers are doing their best to keep him happy. Evi took this nice photo.

The rocks are too high but I’m learning how to be a mounteneer. Soon the Alps will be small stones for me …. OK, maybe I’m exaggerating a little but it’s allowed for a baby bear! 🙂

This log is my good friend!

I love to play with it.

Of course, I want to give my friend a gentle hug, too!

Mama said there will soon be green leaves on this tree. How does she know everything? It will be exciting to follow the naked branches turning green.

My teeth are small but already quite sharp! It’s no good trying to mess around with me!

Sorry, I have no more time for you! As you can see I’m very busy! However, I hope to be back soon.

Dear Jutta! Thank you so much for another series of fantastic photos of the ice princess in Vienna!

The video by Evi explains why there were so much vegetables this day. 🙂

  1. It’s always a great pleasure to watch beautiful photos of my beloved Fur Balls …
    Many-many thanks, dear Jutta!

I’m so happy, I visited my lovely NORA and little FINJA immediately after their coming out …
Now the situation is totally different …..

I took many pictures and filmed my Fluffy Beauties ….., so I have, what to watch and to share …..

Best wishes to you, dear Mervi
and all the readers of KWM!

    With greetings,
    Evi from Tallinn

  2. Dear Jutta and Mervi
Such a shame that visitors will not be able to go and see Nora and Finja while she is still small. But better safe than sorry.
    Thank goodness for these pictures.

  3. Liebe Jutta,

    Britta-Gudrun Nau

  4. Dear Jutta, dear Mervi,
Finja is very cute. It is great that she eats veggies 🙂
I hope Ranzo gets enough toys to stay busy.

  5. Dear Jutta!
You took a lot of marvellous photos in Schönbrunn of beautiful Nora and enchanting little Finja just in time.
    Thank you so much!
What a pity Covid-19 brings so much trouble with it and many public institutions, even zoos, have to close. Hopefully this situation won´t take a long time!

Finja is a dear and obedient little polar bear girl since she bravely tried the veggies though she still prefers the milk of her mother. She looks so cute whether she´s taking a bath or playing and cuddling with a log.

Ranzo is a goodlooking grass widower and I hope he will cope with being separated from Nora for a while.

    Dear Mervi!
Thank you for editing and your humorous subtitles!

  6. Klasse Fotos ! 🙂
    Finja ist sehr fotogen.
    Der Cuteness-Faktor
    ist enorm… 🙂

  7. Dear Mervi and all the readers of KWM,

To understand, why there were so many vegetables that day …
I suggest to watch this video and to read the video description ….

    Best wishes,

  8. Dear Evi,

Thank you for a wonderful video! I inserted it in the article, too.

Nora was willing to share the veggies but the ice bomb was another matter. 🙂 Finja is keeping turbo speed all the time. What luck there isn’t a police officer to give him a ticket for speeding. 🙂

    Hugs from Mervi

  9. Das ist ein ober-niedlicher Purtzel!
    Da muss ich ja richtig froh sein, dass ich nicht in Wien, dieser wundervollen Stadt, lebe;
denn so kann ich besser der Gefahr entrinnen, wieder so etwas wie den ‘KNUTi-Virus’
    einzufangen ;-)))))))

Most beautiful photos and a lovely video – Thank you very much, dear Jutta KIRCHNER.

Most entertaining ‘subtitles’ aka ‘auntie MERVI ghostwrited letter’ (SERVUS! – TERE! – TERVE!, sweet FINJA)
    – Thank you so much, dear MERVI therefor and for the editorial work.

Thank you very much, dear EVI, for the Estonian ‘aka’ of ‘Servus’ and ‘Terve’ a n d for the gorgeous pic of Papa RANZO.

  10. Dear Evi and Mervi, thank you so much for sharing the pics and video with us. Finja is just adorable and very active (just like baby polar bears are supposed to be) and her mommy will be kept very busy with her, isn’t it. And most of all, Finja is sooooo pretty.

  11. Liebe Mervi, liebe Jutta,
