Yesterday afternoon (15th of April) a sweet baby rhino saw the day light for the first time. At noon the mama went into labour and about one hour later the sweetest little baby was lying on the hay. The keepers believe the baby is a boy but it remains to be seen.

Welcome to the world!

Inuvik is a playful little girl and the keepers keep her busy with many kinds of toys.

In the video you can see the favourite toy of the day – a black tube.

  1. Liebe Mervi,

die Kopfstand – Geburt des kleinen Rhimo Babys ist super
und zwei Löcher sind eine große Herausforderung für ein Eisbärkind!

    Liebe Grüße

  2. Dear Mervi
Little Rhinos are so rare and such great fun to watch. I have fond memories of visiting the Rhinos in Copenhagen.
Inuvik seems to be shaping up nicely. I am so pleased that last year I was able to spend so much time with Imaq.
Thank you for all the work that goes into KWM.

  3. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for the good news and the cute videos from the Copenhagen Zoo!

To watch a birth is always a touching experience.
With the first glance at her baby mother rhino looked as if she wanted to say “what´s that?” or ” what have I done?”. She seemed to be quite exhausted and tired afterwards and not really interested in her little one.
But this cutie is very charming from the beginning and managed to warm his mother´s heart anyway.

Polar bear cubs love to put their heads in every possible hole, especially in tubes. Sweet Inuvik is no exception! I really loved that video.
    Thank you for sharing!

  4. You can now follow the baby rhino in a webcam

  5. Dear Mervi!
A rhino mother had not an easy job with getting birth to her baby. She looked tired. A baby is lovely.
I wish a mother and her baby all the best.

  6. Alles Gute für das kleine Rhino !
    Bärchen spielt schön mit der
    schwarzen Röhre – witzig. 🙂

  7. INUVIK ist ein süßes ‘Knusperl’, allerdings vermutlich schwieriger zu hüten, als ein Sack Flöhe 😉

What a miracle such a birth is and hard work for both, mother and baby (any birth but a right heavy task for rhino- and elephant- etc. -mothers . . .). Baby rhinos are so charming creatures from their beginning – one wouldn’t believe it compared to e.g. polaar bear cubs who get especially unresistable only after having opened their eyes and after having got their white fur and getting what we call a ‘fur ball’!.

Thank you, dear MERVI, for having brought also this news and lovely videos to us.

Sorry for you, dear INGE aus COPENHAGEN that you are not allowed to visit all these lovely creatures due to the necessary keeping distance rules caused by the Corona virus . . . Hopeyour little garden, the flowers and the birds are a bit of comfort!

  8. Dear Mervi, thanks for showing the newborn rhinobaby. The mother is 24 years old. The baby is her baby number 4. She is a very caring mother.

Inuvik is so sweet and charming. I have only seen her 4 times in the “real life”. And Imac is a big girl now.

Dear Dumba. I do miss visiting the Zoo. From my little garden I can see the tower in the zoo (Zoo is on the top of the hill, and my little garden is down the hill.

    Good night from Copenhagen
