Aalborg – High five in the water

11.6.2020 – Photos by Jeanette Johnsen

Malik is an experienced mother and knows how to raise her cubbies. They need lots of love and care but they also need to practice typical polar bear behavior. Playing and wrestling are important parts of the education.

A family meeting before the games begin. There’s something interesting in the water.

It’s a little tube – just right for cubbie size paws! 🙂

This barrel is a challenge even for an adult polar bear but the baby bear obviously isn’t afraid of challenges!

Mama, I saw it first!

Dear child, don’t you think this toy is a bit too big for you?

Of course, Malik let her sweet daughter win the battle.

Mama, you’re a very good looser!

Hmm, looks like a singing lesson ….

A polar bear duetto!

Now it’s time for diving exercises.

Looking very elegant!

Mama, how did I do?

Dear child, I give you 12 of 12 points! That was excellent!

After the lessons in polarbearology it’s time for games just for fun.

Imaq and Inuk love to play in the water.

Come on, Sis, give me high five!

  1. Liebe Mervi,

der Titel zum Foto give me high five ist ganz große klasse,
    genauso wie die Bewertung Maliks!
Munter sind die zwei und haben eine gute Mutter, die sie in
    allen Disziplinen geduldig unterrichtet.

Danke für diesen schönen Beitrag und die tollen Fotos von Jeanette Johnsen!

  2. Dear Mervi and Jeanette
Three years ago I was watching Nuka and Qillak being raised the same way. Malik has a very rigorous programme of training, both in and out of the water.
Feeding is only at set times, and I have seen that Malik is using her favourite places.
Perhwps one dwy I will be able to go and see them. But I have missed the opportunity to get to know them as small cubs.

  3. Liebe Mervi

High Five for you and Malik and her cubes!

    Hugs, Erika

  4. Dear Mervi and Jeanette!
Thank you so much for these marvellous photos of Malik and her little ones in Aalborg and the humorous subtitles. “High five in the water” fits perfectly!

There are so many charming photos that it is impossible to choose a favourite.
But some I have to mention anyway. I loved the one with the cub and the little tube as well as the battle for the barrel with mother Malik on the following, the singin lesson, the jumping sweetie and the water games of the twins with “high five” on the last one.

I´m sorry for you Ralph that you had to bury your travel plans.

  5. Dear Jeanette and Mervi!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures of Malik and her cubbies. It is always great to watch the polar bear kids at playing.

  6. Thanks you, Jeanette and Mervi, for this wonderful primer on polar bear motherhood. Malik knows what she is doing. Such very cute photos, it melts my heart.

  7. Like all mothers whether human, bear, bird of whatever, Malik is a very good mother and her girls are getting the best lessons from her. And babies are having a well roundish belly, isn’t it.
