Midsummer Fantasy

Midsummer night is believed to be a time when magic things happen but in our bear world magic is possible even in the broad daylight. 🙂 The good fairies can take all possible shapes, too …

Elsa in Bremerhaven suddenly noticed there were colourful flowers and beautiful butterflies in the polar bears’ enclosure. To her great surprise the flying things could speak polarbearish. They told Elsa she could make a wish. After some thinking the polar bear girl wished something for her sister Anna.

You can imagine what a great surprise it was for Anna to see Mary Poppins herself come flying. The super nanny was accompanied with her small friends Jane and Michael. Hmmm, Tinkerbelly must have mixed up Mary and Peter Pan …. 🙂

Oh bear, this was really ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ *)

All of a sudden the twins found themselves in the Austrian alps and the hills were alive with the sound of music.

Anna and Elsa are still very small but I’m sure that next Midsummer the hills will be alive with loud growling. 🙂

Fiete is deeply in love with Schnezana and he had hoped a nice carriage for a Midsummer ride with the lady of his heart. He was very satisfied with what the fairies brought him.

In Finland it’s usual to make bonfires on the Midsummer eve. This year Sisu had wished to meet a very special friend – Paddington!

– Dear Paddy, you don’t have to wear a thick coat!

– Dear Sisu, I thought it would be cold in Finland but you’re right – I’ll take off my coat. But I’ll keep my fur on, hehehee …. 🙂

When Finja was admiring flowers in the woods she met birds asking her to make a wish. Finja immediately wanted to meet the cute Bambi. Of course, her wish was the birds’ command!

Sweet Kulu’s favourite fairy tale is the ‘The ugly Duckling’ by H.C. Andersen so he had wished to meet the characters in the book. I guess the swans were quite surprised meeting a polar bear in the water …. maybe they thought Kulu was a giant duckling? 🙂

Shauna & Nordi met Cinderella who was going to a royal ball. The twins wanted to show her how it takes two to tango …. or any other dance! Before Cinderella left the kids she asked if they had a special wish.

Shauna and Nordi wanted to surprise their mama Gerda with Peter Pan! No wonder the polar bear lady was astonished when she saw this ‘parade’ in the sky! Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Michael, John och Wendy certainly made a fantastic sight!

Hope wanted to present Winnie the Pooh to her trojka Tala, Indiana and Yuma. First the kids were a bit afraid but soon Winnie and his friend had charmed Hope’s kids.

Flocke – Dear Winnie, I need your advice. How can I make my kids take their medicines?

Winnie – Dear Madame Flocke, I want to quote my friend Mary Poppins: A spoonful of honey helps the medicine go down in a most delightful way! **)

Hertha’s wish was to be able to do some dancing on a string. She quite obviously has a great talent even for this kind of dancing. The fairy wearing an elegant hat told Hertha she could have one more wish.

Hertha asked the fairy to arrange something that would really surprise her mother. Well, she certainly succeeded because Tonja fell backwards of surprise when she saw this! 🙂

With the grand old lady Katjuscha I wish all the readers and reporters of this magazine a happy Midsummer time!

  1. Very nice dear Mervi ???

  2. Dear Mervi!
This is a wonderful midsummer story. I think Hertha managed very well to impress her mother 🙂
I love the surprise for Flocke mostly. She is a great mother.

  3. Dear Mervi!
Happy Midsummer! I wish you some wishes to come true too: the end of the corona crisis, some rain and moderate temperatures during summer time, the well-being of the bears and two-legs you love and some more.

Thank you so much for these beautiful and fairytale-like collages with the wishes of our dear polar bear mothers and cubs. They remind me of the stories and animated films of my childhood and evoke nice memories. Your captions are great!

My favourite stories when I was a child were Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Winnie The Pooh and some fairy tales like “The Ugly Duckling” or ” Cinderella” . So your collages are very much appreciated..

But my favourite collage is the one with our dear old lady Katjuscha. If I had a free wish it would be that she could have some more good years…

One Link was deleted in the meantime, consequently I hope that it will work this time!.

Dear MERVI – busy bee! I ask myself how many hours you may have needed to accomplish the above charming report – story – fairy tale with all those charming collages*** and the entertaining words you put into the little mouthes of your protagonists.

I have to admit I am not as educated as you are in what concerns the knowledge of those modern fairy tales and musicals etc. but I did enjoy every photo of the bears used for your story and every character and comic you did use to achieve your fantastic collages. Thank you very much. Wishing you and your three home-lovelies a most pleasant MIDSUMMER NIGHT tomorrow!

My favourite is ‘KULU’ with the geese. We have even the same choice of favourite fairy-tale = ‘The ugly Duckling’/ ‘Das hässliche kleine Entlein’ aus den ANDERSEN-Märchen . . .; however (I am so sorry), I don’t know or remember who ‘KULU’ is . . . – so I have to make a little search now . . . mombi . . .

Ah! Thanks to ULLI J and to ManuELA I’ve got it now:
“KULU” = male, born on 28. November 2019 in Powell at ‘Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’!
so, there’s nothing I have to blame myself for! I really don’t remember having been in ‘close contact’
with this sweet heart-breaker from the US before!

KULU with his wet fur-head and his innocent glance is so ‘awwwww……’ among the swans in your collage.
    An extra “THANKS!” therefore.

    – – –
A bit of additional nostalgia – see third last collage = Hertha (dancing on a string)
„Puppet on a string“ (Sandie Shaw)

  8. Dear Mervi
You have really given us a classic Midsummer story about the Polars.
Strangely no Walt Disney film has featured a Polar Bear, although one of the TV shows in the 70s featured a girl looking after an orphaned cub called Pakka.

  9. Liebe Mervi,

  10. Dear Mervi, you have outdone yourself again. All these lovely Midsummer fairy tales are soo sweet that one HAS to believe in them.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: Oh Gosh, when I was a kid, it took me a few weeks (!!!!) before I could properly speak out that word and in all honesty, when times are hard, I still use it to cheer up my soul. But I suppose that this is OK since we are allowed to be eternal children here in KWM and in The Knuipe, isn’t it.

  11. Liebe Mervi

    Die Collagen sind entzückend.
Ich hoffe, ihr habt eine schöne
    Mittsommer-Party. 🙂

    Chris 🙂

  12. dear Mervi,
thank you so much for this wonderful story, all the collages are so lovely, no wonder also the real Polarbears are so, it is a nice imagination that all our dear bears could see this fairy tale world.
I wish you, Vesa, Mimmi and Nalle a happy Midsommar time with many great moments
dear greetings and a good summer time to dear all here

  13. I wish you much magic this summer, as we have to use our imaginations to see many of our polar bear friends. These wonderful fantasies made me smile.
