Bathing in water and in snow

25.9.2020 – Photos by Oksana Kalinina and Anna Novikova

A nice swimming tour in the morning is always a good start of a new day. It’s not only refreshing but it also keeps the fur white and shiny.

Good morning to you! What shall we do today?

The snow drift is a popular hangout so sometimes a line-up is needed!

Excuse me for showing you my boomsie but I feel so comfortable lying like this …. 🙂

The soft snow makes a nice matresse and cushion.

Don’t try to imitate me! This takes a very agile polar bear cubbie, hehehee 🙂

Time for stretching so the muscles won’t get sour.

This drift is too small for downhill gliding but I can try anyway!

I’m dreaming of a very white Winter. Maybe we can build a snow castle ….. and we can throw snow balls …. or we can just roll on the soft stuff. Oh bear, it will all be sooooo wonderful and funny!

Dear snow, can you hear me? You’re very welcome to us!

I’m sure you have noticed the white beautiful furs of the polar bears in the Novosibirsk Zoo. Shauna knows the importance of good body care.

Well, what do you think? Don’t I look very presentable?

There are many sweet animal babies in the zoo for the time being. Let me present some of them to you.

The Himalayan tar calf is cuter than cute!

The ozelot kitten has all the spots in the right place and make the typical pattern of the fur.

Binturongs are lovely animals but it’s not so easy to seem them because they’re rather shy.

The binturong castle

The bushdog family has a new member now.

I think this baby already shows an attitude with a big A! 🙂

One of the sixteen manul kittens

Finally I want to show you some beautiful photos of our white fluffy friends.

Gerda looks so young in this photo – don’t you agree?

I love this picture of Gerda. It looks like a Winter photo but was taken in September.

Kai is a smiling gentlebear

I guess he misses Gerda but he seems to accept the current situation without objections. 🙂

Shauna doing the pawicure

Everybody’s heart must melt now! This is such an adorable photo of Shauna.

Nordi is a big boy now and he will most probably be as big as papa Kai.

The little big bear boy is tired.

Gerda is still nursing her twins but I guess she’s already looking forward to the day when she can close her milk bar.

After a good meal the kids are sleeping

Finally peace and quiet!

Thank you for watching! The lovely polar bear family will be back soon. Please, stay tuned!

  1. Thank you so much, dear Oksana Kalinina and Anna Novikova a n d Mervi, for another series of ‘lovely photos with entertaining subtitles’ of the so much loved Novosibirsk polar bear familiy who has gained a real fan-society here in ‘KWM’ in the course of the time!

Even most charming neighbours and Papa KAI were allowed to pose for the ‘Fan-Gemeinde’ this time!

One of the individuals is more pretty and charming than the other one.

  4. Dear Mervi

It is always a great pleasure to see this family. The kids are always in a good mood, Mama Gerda always has everything under control and Papa is a real gentleman bear!
I look forward to the next report with this lovely family!

    Have a nice weekend!

  5. Thank you very much dear Mervi, Anna and Oksana.
Best wishes to Gerda, Kai, Shauna, Nordi and all the other animals.

  6. Dear Oksana, Anna and Mervi!
Thank you for the news from the zoo. Polar bears enjoyed the snow in the summer. It is great.

  7. Dear Oksana, dear Anna and dear Mervi!
Thank you for this delightful posting with its fabulous photos and wonderful fitting captions.
It was really a pleasure to view the pics of this good-looking polar bear family and its neighbours in Novosibirsk. Gerda and Kai are for sure a nice couple and they have lovely children!

There are so many great photos that I can´t fix a favourite.
But some I have to mention anyway: I really loved the gym exercises on the snow heap, Shauna´s search for her bellybutton and the cute little ones in the neighbourhood, especially the bush dog baby and the adorable manul kitten.

    All the best, stay healthy!

  8. Dear Oksana, Anna and Mervi
I am always pleased to see the lovely family in Novosibirsk because it shows that despite the older conditions in the zoos, keepers can really make a difference in making their bears happy. All the best

  12. Dear Oksana and Anna, thank you so much for sharing your pics with us. This polar bear family is wonderful and of course, snow is their favorite toy (even for a yoga session). Although I know that real snow will come to them sooner than here in Belgium and will make them all very happy, I prefer to wait until December or so (maybe a white Christmas).
The other babies are so sweet, but my two absolute favorites are the bushdog cub and the manul kitten. Not so many zoos do have them and if they do, you can only seldom see their babies.
