On the 1st of October the Asian elephant Surin gave birth to a sweet baby girl. Everything went well but the keepers were a bit worried when it took quite a while before the baby started to eat.

Mama Surin and the auntie elephants tried to help the little one.

Finally the sweetie found the ‘on button’ on mama’s milk bar and the keepers could take a sigh of relief.

Doesn’t he/she look happy now!

After a good meal a little baby needs a well deserved nap.

You can follow Surin and her baby in the Webcam in the elephant’s house

Here you have a chance to imitate the polar bears’ special training! 🙂

Videos – A cute baby elephant is born!

In the end of the video you can see the birth. It can look somewhat violent but this is the normal ‘procedure’ after the birth.

Mama’s milk bar is a lolifantje’s favourite restaurant!

On the 7th of October the zoo announced the baby girl’s name. It’s MUN after the third longest river in Thailand in the region Surin (which is the mother’s name). This day was a very special day for the ‘lolifantje’ because she didn’t only get a name but she was out with her mother for the first time.

  1. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for bringing us such cute impressions of this newborn sweetheart!
The births of little elephants are something special and the tiny calves are sooo adorable.
I wish this charming baby elephant a long, happy and healthy life!

    I wish everybody a nice weekend !
    Keep calm and carry on
    Take care and stay healthy!

    Hugs
    Anke

  2. Dear Mervi and Inge
I was lucky enough to visit the wonderful elephant house and enclosure in Copenhagen last year. The elephants are well looked after and I can imagine the excitement amongst the keepers as the little girl found her feet and their relief when she drank.

  3. Liebe Mervi,

    Britta-Gudrun

  6. Dear Mervi

Thank you very much for the cute pictures and videos of the elephant girl. She is adorable.
The Hellabrunners are expecting the days with the elephant offspring. Temi, Ludwig’s mummy, will be mummy again. I wish for a cute little girl like her too. But as they say: As long as she is healthy!

    Happy Weekend!
    Warm greetings, Anita
