The polar bear family in Novosibirsk has a most  welcome visitor –  Jack Frost who came with lots of snow and an extremely cold weather. Well, that’s exactly the kind of gifts our white giant friends love!

Mama, where’s Uncle Jack hiding? We never see him!

Dear child, I really don’t know where our guest is but let’s keep our eyes open – maybe we’ll see him soon.

Gerda always looks like the Snowy Queen.

What shall we do with our tree? The Christmas and the New Year’s Eve have passed ….

Dear tree, have you any suggestions?

Maybe you can just stand here and wait until you’ll be decorated again. However, it will take some time so I guess you will look quite naked in next January …..

Papa Kai has no worries but enjoys the Winter.

How wonderful to feel the snow under my paws again!

Sometimes the gigantic Kai looks like a cubbie. Don’t you agree?

Shauna has inherited her mother’s good looks.

Nordi and Gerda in the land of dreams.

Nordi is doing his pawicure

Feel free to admire my beautiful paws!

Soon I’m as big as my papa! For the time being I’m a gorgeous – and very modest! – young polar bear boy.

Shauna loves the snow and spends a lot of time just lying on the nice ‘matress’.

It was so nice of Uncle Jack to come with our kind of weather.

The snow flakes on my fur make me look soooo cute!

Thank you for watching! We’ll be back soon with more snow! 🙂

For those who don’t know who Jack Frost is: He’ a personfification of frost, ice, snow and freezing cold.  He is a variant of Old Man Winter who is held responsible for frosty weather, nipping the fingers and toes in such weather, coloring the foliage in autumn, and leaving fern-like patterns on cold windows in winter. In Scandinavia he’s called Kung Bore(alis).

  1. Thank you for this lovely winter story. I would love to visit this zoo. Gerda is such a wonderful mother, and the family seems so happy. I hope they stay together for awhile longer, and that the cubs go to good homes.

  2. Mama GERDA and Papa KAI are such beauties!
Such it’s no wonder they’ve got those handsome and lovely children.

Dear Anna Novikova, you’ve brought again gorgeous photos of this picture-book-polar-bear-family.
Thank you very much. It’s always kind of a ‘fest for the eyes’ to see the four of them so white AND seemingly happy in the white stuff and in your pics.

Would like to cuddle ‘KAI-cubbie’s’ belly 😉

I am never able to take appart SHAUNA and NORDI but for sure they both have inherited their parents’ good looks!

Dear Merving – Thanks for your fitting photo-captions and for the explanation of ‘Jack Frost/ Old man winter’.

  4. Dankeschöm wieder für alles Schöne von der guten Eisbärenfamilie!

    LG Brigitte.

  5. Dear Mervi!
This is what contented polar bears look like!
I’m glad they can enjoy their favourite season to the fullest.
I love all the pictures, but especially those of the relaxed and somewhat sleepy Kai. He is a beautiful and impressive bear and I agree with Dumba that Nordi and Shauna have inherited the good looks from their parents.

By the way, it’s also snowing thick flakes in Berlin at the moment.
But as a change in the weather to the plus range has been announced, the white splendour will not last long.

  6. Thank you very much dear Mervi and Anna.
Best wishes to Kai, Gerda, Shauna and Nordi.

  7. Dear Mervi and Anna
The one place that I really can enjoy snow and ice
is with you and this gorgeous Polar Bear family.
Thank you for the words and pictures.

  8. Dear Anna!
Sorry! I forgot to mention that the great photos were taken by you.
    Thank you so much!

  9. Die Eisbär-Familie genießt die Freuden des
Winters, der in Sibirien wahrlich streng ist.
Aber das macht den Bärchen nichts aus. 🙂
Sie spielen und genießen die weiße Pracht.

  10. Dear Anna!
You brought again the wonderful pictures of the polar bears. The bears look very well.
I admire you. You visit the zoo very often despite of the very cold weather.

  11. Dear Anna

It is always a great pleasure to read your reports in knutiweekly !!

Mum Gerda and two cuddly twins are magical as always. It’s nice how the two of them look for Jack Frost.
And Daddy Kai doesn’t seem worried at all about Jack Frost. He just sleeps on.

I wish you all a wonderful winter.

  12. What a lovely winter story !
Here they are all happily together ….,
but by now the little ones are already separated
    from their mother …..
It’s time to start an independent life .
    I imagine,
how unhappy the little fur balls can be …..
Hope, the cubs go to good homes !

    Greetings from Tallinn,
