Bearolympics 2021

Due to the covid-19 the Olympic Summer Games 2020 were cancelled. Despite the many objections the games will take place during 23 juli – 8 augusti in Tokyo.

What luck the Polarbear Summer Olympics can be carried out without problems! Covid-19 simply doesn’t exist in our virtual polar bear world! This is a report exclusively for Knuti’s Weekly Magazine. 🙂

The opening ceremony was a magnificent event with the fire, the rings and all kinds of entertainment. The Tyrolean Mighty Bears Orchestra took care of the music. Of course, even brown and black bears are qualified to participate in these games!

First some flashbacks to the year 2012 when the Summer games for humans were held in London.

The polar bears’ keeper in Ranua – Pertti SaarijĂ€rvi – made Olympic rings of black tyres for Venus and Ranzo.

Ranzo’s Finnish flag is a bit worn- out but the rings look fantastic! 🙂

The humans make so much fuss about the different disciplines. Our polar bear friends know it’s not necessary to get exhausted by training too hard when there are easier ways!

Little Aika is wondering why the steeple chase runners  just pass the water instead of enjoying a nice bath! Well, the two legged creatures really are odd! They haven’t got a clue of how to enjoy life!

Johannes Vetter is the best javelin thrower in the world this season and, naturally, he’s the favourite for winning the gold medal in his discipline.

  • Dear Mr Vetter, don’t you think it would be much more fun to participate in the ball squashing. We are sure you would be the champion in this discipline, too!

Armand Duplantis – even called Mondo –  is a hot candidate for the gold in pole vault. Miki is a big fan of Mondo but she wants to give Mondo a good piece of advice.

  • Dear Mondo! Why do you train so hard and exhaust yourself by jumping with the walking stick?

  • Please, check here! Why don’t you just jump UNDER the bar instead of running with that heavy stick? You can have the bar as high as you want – the sky is the limit and you always make it!!

This is Sisu’s opinion of the beach volley ball. What’s the point in throwing a ball on a hot beach? Oh no, I pass! A snow ball on an icy ground would be another matter ….

In the category ‘Odd Sports’ the synchronized swimming must be number one! The spectators hardly see anything else but feet or arms – or nothing at all.

Nobby decided to make these ladies’ performance a bit more interesting. You must admit that a polar bear with a black tyre would give an extra dimension to this disciplin.

Polar bear yoga is one of the most enjoyable disciplines in the Summer games. If you want to imitate this – please, make sure the paramedics are nearby.

A gold medal is, of course, nice but who can eat it? That’s why there’s an extra prize for the winners – a gold medal patĂ©. What luck that in the Bearolympics everybody’s a winner so nobear has to starve!

In every Olympic Games there’s a special mascot. My all time favourite is Mischa from the Summer games 1980 in Moscow.

Our mascot Lili is, naturally, as cute as Misha!

The Bearolympics always is a big success and I hope even the human games will go well despite the difficult circumstances! Knuti’s Weekly wishes all the athlets best of luck and hopes the weather will not be too hot!

We are all the champions!

  1. Dear Mervi
This is my sort of Olympic Games.
You have really brought the Olympic
    spirit to life.

  2. Dear Mervi,

What fun the Polar Bear Olympics are. I know Raspi spends a lot of time training for the swimming competitions. His triplets Indi, Yuma and Rasputina should do well in the relay race. They make a good team.

Of course the Polar Bear Yoga is great fun, for the bears like to twist themselves into pretzels.

Hochan and Fubuki must be very happy little cubs, to have the 2020 Olympics so close.

Thanks for the sports update. We should have Polar Bear Olympics every year.

  3. Dear Mervi

    Yes, they all Champions!!
Thank you so much for this beary report.

  4. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for this funny story. The collages are wonderful.

  5. Liebe Mervi,

  6. Dear Mervi!
What a beautiful fictional alternative to the current Olympic Games you have come up with.I had a big grin on my face the whole time I was reading.
The polar bears’ advices to the athletes are droll and very sympathetic to me….
I wish all athletes, whether bear or human, good luck, much success and above all fun and good health.

PS: Unfortunately, I can’t write as much as I’d like at the moment, as I’ve become a nurse again due to a broken shoulder on Thomas’ right after a bicycle accident – with no outside involvement – and I’m pretty busy.

  7. Gute Besserung fĂŒr deinen Thomas, liebe Anke!

  8. Dear Anke!

Please, forward the best get-well-soon-wishes to Thomas from Vesa and me!

  9. Liebe Anke,
ich wĂŒnsche Thomas schnelle Besserung und dir viel Kraft.

  10. Danke fĂŒr Eure guten WĂŒnsche!
Wir wissen sie zu schĂ€tzen! Man wĂ€chst mit seinen Aufgaben…

    Alles Liebe

Thank you for your good wishes!
We appreciate them! You grow with your tasks…

    All love, hugs

  13. These are the real Olympic Games !
I hope, humans will learn from our
