31.12.2021 – Photos by Sheila and Philip Baker

Sisu has been in Yorkshire a year now and despite some health problems he’s doing fine. I’m really glad he found a new home in this park where he has three good friends, too.

Before I leave the word to Sisu I want to thank Sheila and Philip for their fantastic photos during this year. Now it’s Sisu’s turn:

Terve! Hello! The naked spot on my back doesn’t look so good for the time being but it’s getting better day by day.

Hey, if you look at this side of me you can see that I’m my usual good looking chap.

I’m so glad having three good friends here. May I present them to you?

This is Hamish. He was born in Scotland so he has a funny accent … but on the other hand he thinks the same of my Finnish accent. 🙂

Here’s Luka who was born in Germany. We are an international bunch of bachelor bears here.

Even Nobby was born in Germany. He’s a jolly good fellow!

I love to wrestle with Nobby.

Oh bear, it looks like I had patched trousers …. Never mind, Nobby and I have gorgeous boomsies!

Synchronized watching!

Hamish is a playful and funny guy.

We can spend a lot of time together in the water.

We are a happy polar bear quartet that gets along just fine – that’s why Hamish and I sang ‘You never walk alone’.

Luka had no time for playing today. He had to keep an eye on his Christmas tree. 🙂

Luka cuddling up to his very own Christmas tree

Flocke and her three kids were planning the day’s activities ….

…. decided to take a nice walk in a misty weather.

Wait for me!

Leaving the year 2021 behind ….

… and welcoming the year 2022!

On behalf of the readers of this magazine I wish Sheila, Philip, all the animals and keepers in the Yorkshire Wildlife Park a very happy new year!

  1. Dear Sheila, dear Philip and dear Mervi!
Thank you for this update from Yorkshire at the turn of the year. It’s especially good to know now that the polar bears there are doing well.

I am very happy that Sisu has recovered from his health problems. He, Hamish and Luka have grown into handsome, well-padded young men. Nobby looks almost skinny in comparison.
However, the photos show a contented quartet of bear males who know how to have fun together!

I particularly liked the pictures of a male chat in the pool, Luka with his Christmas tree and the fun photos of Flocke and her three mighty grown teenagers, who she obviously still has good control over. Those are impressive boomsies indeed…. Delightful!

I wish you, your loved ones and all readers a Happy New Year 2022!
2021 wasn’t all bad – I’m thinking of the vanishing of No. 45, for example…. – but there is still a lot of room for improvement in 2022, including that this f…ing pandemic finally comes to an end.

    All the best, hugs

  2. Dear Sheila, Philip and Mervi,
