So ein Wetter, wie heute, haben wir sehr selten. Es war kalt und sonnig. Wir sind früh nach Bad Harzburg gefahren und sind von dort zum Brocken gelaufen.

We have not often such weather as today. It was cold and sunny. In the morning we drove to Bad Harzburg and walked to Brocken.

Als wir am 27.12.2011 in Tiergarten Nürnberg waren, haben wir nicht nur die Eisbären gesehen. Etwas verspätet zeige ich auch die Bilder.

As we on 27.12.2011 Tiergarten Nuremberg visited, we saw not only the polar bears. I show the pictures with delay.

Auf dem Weg zu den Eisbären wir ashen die Giraffen.

Sehr interessant war ein Brillenbär. Er hat sich sehr konzentriert mit dem Stroh für sein Bett beschäftigt.

Very interesting was a spectacled bear. A bear was occupied with the straw for his/her bed.

As it is still winter, Tosca, Nancy and Katjuscha are a bit sleepy. Suddenly Kati got a visit from the bear angel boy. He said to her:”Kati, you sleepy head, wake up! Eva has a birthday soon!”
Kati came out from her den and called for Nancy.

Nancy was not a big help, she was dozy.

Kati decided to save two salmons for Eva’s birthday party

Unfortunately she decided to make a quality control first. ”Oh no, now the two salmons are gone! What shall we do?
Tosca decided to phone Vera and ask for help. Vera said “why don’t I send Eva an Amaryllis” It has large flowers that will stay fresh and beautiful for a long time.” Tosca and Kati agreed and so the plant was sent.

Vera said “I would love to help with the cooking, but I would be afraid to leave my boys alone. They are still too young and full of mischief”!

Tosca decided to phone Lars.

Lars, remembering all the wonderful meals Eva had cooked for his Knuipian friends, was more than happy to send a birthday cake for Eva

Tosca, Nancy and Katjuscha were still not satisfied and phoned Sarsam for suggestions. Sarsam told them that Eva was moving soon to an apartment in Galveston. Now the Golden Girls knew exactly what Eva needed: A Knut-pillow! They phoned Ludmila and she gave them the material.

Now the Golden Girls are sewing the pillow.
Dear Eva, you will get your birthday present later. You know the Golden Girls are puting their hearts and souls into the sewing.

Sea Life Berlin, Part II

Am Ende kommt die Fahrt durch den AquaDom. Der AquaDom ist ein zylindrisches Aquarium, 12m im Durchmesser und 25m hoch.

At the end comes the ride through the AquaDom. The AquaDom is a cylindrical tank, 12m in diameter and 25m high.

Am 1.1.2012 haben wir am Vormittag Sea Life in Berlin besucht. Sea Life ist mit dem Aquarium nicht vergleichbar. Sea Life ist viel kleiner, aber trotzdem interessant.

Am Anfang sind die einheimischen Fische vorgestellt.

On 01.01.2012 we visited on the morning Sea Life in Berlin. Sea Life is not comparable with the aquarium. Sea Life is much smaller, but interesting nonetheless.
At the beginning the native fishes are presented.

Sightseeing in Berlin

Am 31.12. haben wir die Kuppel von dem Reichstagsgebäude besucht. Die Kuppel wurde 1999 neu aufgebaut. Wegen der großen Nachfrage kann die Kuppel nur mit der Voranmeldung besichtigt werden. Vor mehreren Jahren standen wir mit Uwe mehr als eine Stunde in der Schlange vor dem Eingang. Jetzt bekamen wir einen Termin um 12 Uhr und kamen ohne warten in das Reichstagsgebäude. Wenn eine Plenarsitzung des Deutschen Bundestages stattfinden, ist es möglich von oben in den Plenarsaal zu schauen. Am 31.12. fand keine Sitzung statt.

At 31.12. We have visited the Dome of the Reichstag building. The dome was built new in 1999. Due to popular demand, the dome can be seen only with the appointment. Several years ago we stood with Uwe more than an hour in line at the entrance. Now we got an appointment at 12 o’clock, and came without waiting in the Reichstag building. If held a plenary session of the Bundestag, it is possible to look from above into the Hall. At 31.12. There was no meeting.

Zoo Berlin am 31.12.2011

Wir haben entschieden Silvester am Brandenburger Tor zu feiern. Als ich hörte, dass mehrere Freunde um 10:30 im Zoo bei Tosca, Nancy und Katjuscha sich treffen, habe ich mich gefreut, dass wir nach Berlin fahren und unseren Besuch der Reichstagskuppel erst für 12 Uhr gebucht war. Ich habe Uwe und Katharina zeitig geweckt. Kurz nach 10 Uhr war ich im Zoo. Es war sehr schön die Freunde zu treffen. Besonders hat mich gefreut Doris und Jessie zu sehen.

We have decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Brandenburg Tor. When I heard that several friends around 10:30 in the zoo at Tosca, Nancy and Katjuscha meet, I was glad that we go to Berlin and our visit of the Reichstagkuppel was booked first for 12 o’clock. I woke Uwe and Katharina up early. Shortly after 10 o’clock I was in the zoo. It was very nice to meet the friends. Especial has pleased me to see Doris and Jessie.

Wir sind erst um 11 Uhr im Tiergarten angekommen und gleich zu den Eisbären gegangen. Felix war draußen. Bei der Fütterung erzählte der Pfleger, dass Felix die meiste Zeit im inneren Bereich verbringt. Felix sieht immer noch sehr schlank aus.

We arrived about 11 am in Tiergarten and went straight to polar bears. Felix was outside. At the feeding the keeper told us that Felix stays mostly inside. Felix is still very slim.

Aleut und Gregor spielten zusammen. Vera lief am Wasserrand und beobachtete ihre Kinder. Wir dachten, dass der Pfleger bei der Fütterung uns sagen wird, wie man die Jungen unterscheiden kann. Leider sagte der Pfleger, dass er selbst sehr genau schauen muss. Aleut hat etwas schmaleres Gesicht und Gregor hat einen dickeren Po. Leider standen die Bärchen keinen Moment ruhig.

Aleut and Gregor were playing together. Vera was walking at the water and watching her children. We thought, the keeper would tell us at feeding how to distinguish Aleut from Gregor. Unfortunately the keeper said that he has to look closely to distinguish the boys. He said that Aleut’s face is a bit slender as a face of Gregor. Gregor’s bottom is a bit thicker as at Aleut. Unfortunately the boys did not stay a moment calm.
