Although my first visits in Zoos are always to check out the Polar Bears, I try to set aside some time to visiting other animals, especially if I know someone who can tell me something about them.

Last Day in Denmark. I had not expected to be able to visit Denmark again and I was delighted that the visit had gone so well. The last Sunday came all too soon.

Nuka and Quillak were already playing in the water when I arrived. One of the Polar Bears’ toys is a big green ball which has survived several years of hard play by Malik and her girls.

After the excitement of my day at the Zoo on Thursday, Friday was a more leisurely day, for me at least. The girls were already in action in the big enclosure. Even so, like all Polar Bears they prefer to stay dry if they can.

After our wonderful session with the Polar Bears, Jeanette told us that she had arranged a very special event. We were going to be split into two groups and taken behind the scenes to have a keeper talk and meet the Orangs: Djimat and his daughter, Cinta.

The very experienced keepers at Aalborg ensure that even seasoned Polar Bear fans like us are reminded of the safety precautions necessary when going in to the rear areas. We were under close supervision at all times.

I was very relieved to arrive in Aalborg on Wednesday morning. The arrangements had worked better than I could have hoped. Danish State Railways had been efficient and comfortable.

Afternoon in the Arctic Ring in the Copenhagen Zoo

In the afternoon I returned to the Arctic Ring as the small enclosure was now empty. I soon found Imaq and Lynn at the back of the terrain in the Arctic Ring.

I had decided during the hot days at the end of July and August to make a final trip this year to Denmark. With Imaq in Copenhagen and Nuka and Quillak in Aalborg, there were some lovely bears to see while they were still young.
