I had not expected to be back in Copenhagen Zoo so soon after my visit in March, but a meeting with friends in Aalborg Zoo to say goodbye to Nuka and Quillak was too good to miss, so I repeated my route by flying to Copenhagen first.

I spent a morning in the Alaska world at Zoom Gelsenkirchen in April on the way to meet a friend in Dusseldorf. The tram stop has a series of animals from Zoom, including a Polar Bear, on its glass shelters.

My final day in Germany was spent with the two Polar Bears in Wuppertal Zoo. The Zoo opened at 0830, so I made sure to catch an early train from Dusseldorf and arrived at the Zoo’s railway station in plenty of time.

Most of my time on Monday 1 April was spent at Project Polar, but I always try to walk round the Park and visit other residents. Many of them are too difficult to photograph, like the brown bears who were inside their den.

On Monday 1 April I took advantage of some decent weather to spend the day the YWP near Doncaster. Although I did visit some of the other interesting animals, most of my time was spent at the three enclosures that make up “Project Polar”.

All too soon it was Friday 15 March and time to say a last goodbye to Malik, Nuka and Qilak. The pillar of rock on the large enclosure is a favourite place for the family to gather and wait for any keepers to pass by with treats.

My second day in Aalborg was Thursday 14 March, and it was a very wet day. Nuka and Qillak did not mind as they were enjoying their favourite toy, a large tyre.

On Thursday 14 March the girls in Aalborg Zoo spent a lot of time in the water. I was lucky enough (perhaps as one of the family after so many visits) to be given a chance to share the precious tyre at the window.
