After seeing Noel in the large Arctic Ring, I went over to the small enclosure to see if anyone was there. At first all was quiet.

I had decided during the hot days at the end of July and August to make a final trip this year to Denmark. With Imaq in Copenhagen and Nuka and Quillak in Aalborg, there were some lovely bears to see while they were still young.

After the wonderful time we had spent with the Polar Bears, Jeanette told us that we were going to have an additional treat as “friends” of the Zoo. She had arranged for us to go inside the Elephant House.

Being able to feed Nuka and Quillak was only the first stage of the visit to the Polar Bear house. We were also going to be able to meet Malik and Nord.

Thursday in Aalborg was a special day thanks to Jeanette Johnsen and Susanne Hansen, who had organised with the Zoo as “Friends of the Zoo” for us to meet and feed the Polar Bears, with one of the keepers.

As the day got into its swing, I had been joined by Molly Merrow. Molly took a shot of me chatting to “Muddy Paws”. Malik was very relaxed about Nord and allowed him to follow her around.

The train from Copenhagen and a bus link had been very full but I still arrived with plenty of time to check into my hotel and get some food before getting to the Zoo. I even managed to see the Polar Bears from the road!

On Saturday I was very fortunate that Inge came to see me to show me her home zoo. I wish I had had more time to spend with her, but my flight home was in the afternoon rather than the evening.

Some time last year I posted a picture of me visiting a public house (Kneipe in the UK) called “The Bear” which is near a friend of mine’s house. On Friday 5 July we visited “The Bear” to see the changes under the new management.

Now and again Imaq decided to play with the imitation ice sheet floating in the pool. However, she soon lost interest in it, as she realised it was not very tasty.
