Like Valeska in Zoo am Meer or her mother, Victoria, in Scotland, Malik is a large and very attractive female polar bear. One of the advantages of the absence of grass and mud, is that she and her cubs are usually very clean and fluffy.

My packed tuna sandwiches from England were too much for Nuka to resist. The glass facing the upper part of the lower enclosure has a large shelf where the water flows into the main pool.

Teddybaerenmutti and Teddybaerenvati had picked Sisu up in Ranua and decided that he would enjoy a visit to Oxford, where many TV detective shows are filmed.

The bears are normally more relaxed in the afternoon. Victor in particular found a pleasant spot to snooze on the new enclosure on his own. Nobby always enjoys patrolling the perimeter of the second enclosure.

Walker and Arktos share a holding pen at the bottom of a slope. It was originally built to house Mercedes, the sole bear living in Edinburgh Zoo.

Hamish at five months is a self-confident little bear, who is very curious about everything that goes on inside his large enclosure. HWP have given him a whole real tundra landscape to explore.

On Friday 18 May I set off for London from Oxford in the evening using the one of the two excellent bus services. I arrived in Victoria in London in plenty of time to have an evening meal.
