We’ve seen lots of heart warming photos of polar bear cubs and their mothers during the last months. That’s why I thought it would be suitable to walk in the memory lane and remember Knut as a cubbie with his very special ‘mother’.

Nine years have gone since the day Tosca gave birth to a tiny polar bear baby. Unfortunately she couldn’t take care of the cub herself but we will always be grateful for the precious gift she gave us.

Thomas Dörflein gave the name ‘Knut’ to the cubbie and when the first photos of the keeper and the bear were published people throughout the world were charmed.

Dear Knut, it was a privilege to know you!

Our beloved Knuti had many nicknames – Puschelkeks, Knuti schatzele, Zauberbär, Knuti Pie, Honey paw, His fluffiness, Knutilein ….. we wanted to find new ways to describe how wonderful we found our boy.

The crows are fearless birds and never hesitate to visit even gigantic animals like polar bears. However, I don’t think there ever was any danger for them from Knut because he seemed to like the feathered visitors.
