The Winter is over even in Novosibirsk

22.5.2020 – Photos by Anna Novikova, Videos by Nina Kiropatkina

The old man Winter has retired and the young Miss Spring has made her entry even in the Novosibirsk. The zoo is still closed so there are no new photos of the polar bear family. However,  there are new videos which you can see in the end of this article.

I have saved some Winter photos though and want to show them to the readers of this magazine now.

The beautiful mama Gerda

Shauna looks extra cute with her snowy fur.

Nordi enjoys the soft snow mattress before it melts away.

Even papa Kai had travelled to the Napland.

I wonder what he was dreaming of …..

In the following photos the snow has already started to melt so maybe this was the last chance to enjoy frozen meat.

Is your snack bigger than mine?

Now the ice floats are gone but before the ice vanished Nordi and Shauna loved to play in the ‘water on the rocks’ as their friend Sisu in Ranua says. 🙂

Rolling in the snow before it was too late. Now it will take a while until our fluffy friends can use the snowy spa!

Where are our fans?

It seems to me the animals in the zoos are missing their visitors just like the visitors miss them.

Mama, aren’t you forgetting something? It’s our feeding time!

Of course, Gerda immediately opened the milk bar and so the whole family was happy.

Nina has been allowed to make videos from the distance. In the videos you can see how the polar bears’ enclosure looks like in May.

  1. The complete(!) NOVOSIBIRSK-polar-bear-family looks extra-‘wunderschoen’ in those latest and last photos of the family (taken by Anna Novikova this time) in winter 2019/2020.

Thanks to you, dear MERVI, for having brought again the lovely family, inclusive of papa KAI together with your appreciated subtitles and for your work with the publication in ‘KWM’.

Thanks also to ANNA NOVIKOVA that she made those last pics of the snowy part of end 2019 till next to the first half of 2020!!

Thanks also to NINA KIROPATKINA for showing the new living conditions of the beautiful and lovely bears – now WITHOUT their beloved snow. . . . .

Good to see that at least one of the youngsters know how to keep itself occupied – while handsome GERDA goes for a constant walk, obviously quite bored/annoyed and the second youngster obviously cannot believe that all the white stuff has gone completely . . .

  2. Dear Mervi and Anna
While we two legs are happy to see the sun getting warmer, the Polars in Novosibirsk are looking forward to the snow coming back.
Beautiful photos and videos. Thank you.

  3. Dear Mervi, Anna and Nina!
Thank you for these delightful impressions of the Novosibirsk polar bears.
I´m not sure what the bears miss more now: the visitors or snow and ice?… The enclosure looks so much better in winter.
But the bear family is doing well and all of them look fantastic. And they´ve got a lot of toys to play with, the best antidote to boredom beside some food… 😉

    Hugs and paw waves

  4. Dear Anna, Nina and Mervi!
Thank you for the pictures of Gerda and the kids. They had a good time with a lot of snow in the winter, I think they are glad now to swim in the pool.
I hope the zoo will open very soon.

  5. Thank you for the adorable pics.
The kids have grown a lot ! 🙂

  6. Freu mich wieder über die vier Guten!

    LG Brigitte

  7. Danke fuer die wunderschoenen Bilder von Gerda, Kai und den beiden “Riesenbabies”.

    Liebe Gruesse, Erika
