Copenhagen – Did the animals actually miss their visitors?

The zoos have been closed for several weeks but now most of them have re-opened the gates. Many visitors are wondering how the animals have reacted to the absence of the two legged creatures that used to came and watch them.

As we have already seen in many reports it looks like most animals are very glad having their human friends back in the zoos.

Inuvik is doing her best to impress her fans – both in the water and in the land. 🙂

The following three photos were posted by Inge from Copenhagen.

Of course, many times the animals are only looking for their keepers coming with the food but very often they seem to be very interested of the visitors. Toys are very important enrichment for the animals but maybe we can say that the visitors are also kind of enrichment for our four legged friends ….

For many of the animals born during the ‘time-out’ the re-opening was the first time they could see the visitors.

The keepers in Copenhagen have video taped their animals while the zoo was closed and again now that the zoo is open again. The intention is to study the animals’ behaviour and see how aware they are of their visitors – and the absence of them. It will be interesting to know what conclusions can be done when the study is finished!

This video is a ‘potpourri’ with some of the sweeties in this zoo.

A group hug is allowed for us but dear visitors, please, keep the distance when you come and meet us in our zoo!

  1. Liebe Mervi,

    Britta-Gudrun

  2. Dear Mervi and Inge
I must admit I am beginning to enjoy not having to leave the security of my den in Kidlington and travel for hours to meet the animals in various zoos.
However, it is an advantage in the case of Copenhagen Zoo that I know exactly where the enclosures are and what it would be like to be there. Inuvik is learning every bit as fast as Imaq last year. Noel is a very good mum. The lion family always welcome me and say farewell to me as their enclosure is near the main entrance.

  3. Dear Inge, dear Mervi!
Thank you for the news from the zoo Copenhagen. It is great that the zoo is open again. Noel and Inuvik were surely glad to see the visitors. again 🙂
    Hugs
    Ludmila

  4. Dear Mervi!
Thank you for the update from the Copenhagen Zoo.
I´m not really convinced that all respectively most animals in zoos are happy about the return of visitors. Some are for sure, but some really enjoyed the silence during the shutdown as a keeper told me.
But there is no doubt the visitors are happy to see their favourites again.

    Liebe Inge!

    Hugs

  5. Dear all

I am glad to see, that you enjoyed the pictures/videos from my home-Zoo. It is nice to be back there and see the animals again. And also good to see the visitors come back in the Zoo and in The Blue Planet (where they have the most adorable sea-otters.)

    Enjoy the weekend.

    Hugs Inge aus Cph

Dear MERVI: Thank you very much for holding us informed about the COPENHAGEN ZOO.
The photos of the lion cubs and the lemures with their youngsters are lovely.
I am looking forwar now to watching the two videos after another little Saturday-morning-nap (it’s still so early! Yawn!) and a humble breakfast 🙂

I began blogging just recently and observed that many
people simply rework old ideas bbut add very little oof value.
It’s good to read an enlightening write-up of some genuine value to me.

It is going down on my list of things I need to repllicate being a new blogger.

Audience engafement and material value are king.

managed to get on my list of sites to watch!
