Finland – The brown bears in Korkeasaari are awake again

The brown bears in the Zoo Korkeasaari have waken up after the three months long hibernation. This time the ‘Winter nap’ was a little longer than usual.
The white enclosure was a surprise – there was no snow in November when the bears decided to start hibernating.
The bears are both females at the ages of 15 and 20 years. They spend the coldest and frostiest time in their den sleeping. However, now they’re both feeling there’s Spring in the air – and seeing them out is a certain sign of the approaching light season. 🙂
One of the ladies immediately looked for a snack under the snow while the other one was focused on cleaning her fur by rolling in the snow.
Of course, some friendly wrestling was on the schedule as well.
After a very active morning it was time to relax and take a nice nap. I wonder if that wood log is very comfortable but our brown friend doesn’t seem to mind …. 🙂
The zoo Korkeasaari is closed for the time being due to the corona situation.
Dear Mervi
The Brown Bears must smell something in the air to leave their warm dens for the snowy slopes. I am also starting to look forwardto Spring.
Liebe Mervi,

How nice of Annika Sorjonen and the Zoo Korkeasaari to bring those ‘Knuddel-Bären’ to us
depite of the closing of the Zoo and Mervi found appropriate accopanying words.
Dear Mervi!
The brown bears enjoy the snow. In the zoo they have enough food, it is not the problem that it is still cold.

Dear Mervi!
I don´t know what to think about this strange spring. F… Corona is still going strong and no end is in sight.
That’s why it’s all the more pleasing to see these bears, rested and full of energy, starting into the not-yet-visible spring. It looks like they are enjoying the still wintry conditions and I hope they can enjoy the snow for a little while longer.
Thank you for these beary heralds of spring in Northern Finnland!
Hugs
Anke
Thank you very much dear Mervi and Annika.
Best wishes to the brown bears in Korkeasaari.
Dear Mervi
Dear Annika
Thank you for the bearish post.
It’s great to see the bears waking up in such a good mood and getting right into contact with their fellow bear.
I was happy to see the refreshing pictures!
Hugs
