On the 4th of January this year brown bear Losa in Orsa gave birth to two sweet cubs. The mama and her babies have been in the den ever since.

Losa is an experienced mother and knows how long she must stay indoors with the babies. During the last few weeks she started to wake up. She even started drinking and eating more. On the Easter Sunday the keepers opened the door of the den so Losa could come out with her off spring.

Two curious baby bears looking out for the first time.

One of the certain signs of the Spring is when the brown bears wake up and come out. This year they woke up a little earlier than usual although the Spring weather turned out to be very cold and it was even snowing.

This is papa Diego

Of course, the bear mothers with cubs stay longer in the den than other bears because the babies are quite helpless and need time to grown and get stronger.

Meeting Losa and her cubs was a lovely surprise for the visitors. They came to see Ewa’s and Wilbär’s baby bear but could even see Losa’s kids. 🙂

Together we’re strong!

Mama Losa was an orphaned little bear when she came to the park in 2002. Even papa Diego was found in the wild alone. The keepers took care of him when he was brought to the park in 2011.

  1. Liebe Mervi,

  2. Dear Mervi
Brown bears are so rare in zoos these days that the sight of these two little bundles can only bring a smile to the face. Losa has done such a great job to get them through the difficult stages.

  3. Dear Mervi!
I miss our brownies – and all the other bears – very much and wish the Berlin Zoo hadn’t changed so much since then.
I am green with envy when seeing these little sweetie pies. They are simply adorable!
I will keep my fingers crossed for you and Vesa that you will be able to visit them in the course of the year!

  4. Dear Mervi!
The kids of Losa and Diego are very cute. Very soon they will enjoy the green grass outside.

  5. Braunbärchen im Schnee
sieht man selten – zu süß!

  6. So liebe Maeuse!

    Liebe Grüße, r
