Polar bear mothers and cubs are usually living together separated from other polar bears. In Copenhagen there are two mothers – Lynn and Nöel – and two cubs – Imaq and Inuvik – and now they’ve been introduced to each other.

The quartet has been allowed to spend some time in the same enclosure so they can learn to know each other. So far things are going very well but, naturally, the keepers are watching them all the time so they can interfere if there would be severe arguments between Lynn and Nöel.

The half sisters are getting along fine although they still want to make sure mama is close to them. Playing with another young polar bear is the best enrichment for Imaq and Inuvik.

For the time being the bears have their meals separately but the zoo hopes all four can be together all the time – little by little, step by step  …. First Lynn and Nöel must decide who’s the boss. It’s important that a ‘hacking order’ will be established. Nöel is older so maybe she’ll be the big boss?

The father of Imaq and Inuvik is Nord who the time being is living in Ranua, Finland.

Knuti’s Weekly wishes the mamas & cubbies a pleasant Spring time together!

  1. Liebe Mervi,

oh, oh das sieht mir nicht nach einer friedlichen Zusammenführung aus und ich halte dieses Experiment für sehr gewagt. Hoffentlich geht alles gut!

    Liebe Grüße
    Britta-Gudrun

  2. Dear Mervi

I am very happy that the 4 of them can live together.
Step by step, living together will get better.

    Have a nice weekend!

    Hugs,
    Anita

  3. How nice for the cubs to have a playmate now that they are old enough and strong enough.

I wish I could go see them right now

  4. Dear Mervi!
I hope the four bears will be happy together.
    Hugs
    Ludmila

  5. Dear Mervi!
    This is exciting news!
I keep my fingers crossed that everything continues to go well and remains peaceful!
It would be a win/win situation for the bears: Lynn and Noel could make friends and the little ones could play together.

    Hugs
    Anke

  6. Dear Mervi
It seems only yesterday that I was filming a tiny Imaq bravely standing behind a rock in 2019.
I am so grateful to see these photos and wish the Zoo well. If the experiment works out Imaq and Inuvik will have fun and Noel and Lynn will get a chance to rest.
