Yorkshire – Family dinner and funny bachelor bears

14.9.2021 – Photos by Sheila and Philip Baker

What could be nicer than a family dinner on the green grass? That’s why Flocke gathered her kids to have a nice meal together. I wish the sweet family ‘bon appetit’!

It looks the family members can’t decide what shade of white would be most becoming …. 🙂

Although the ‘dinner table’ is very big there seems to be too little space when the Indiana, Tala and Yuma try to get the best pieces of meat. 🙂

Oh bear, three really is a crowd … but hey, we have a dinner guest ….

….. we have several dinner guests! Mama, did you invite them, too?

Picasso had his blue period – Luka seems to have a ‘white period’ for a change. 🙂

I’m a dedicated follower of fashion and want to test if this white look matches my image.

White fur is quite boring in my opinion so I think I’ll take a nice roll in the mud to be myself again!

Hamish has found something interesting in the water.

What can I do with this thingie? Hmm, it can be used as a combined tiara and necklace ….

…. or maybe a very thin scarf …. Not a very warm scarf I must admit.

Of course, I must test if it’s eatable. It looks like a licorice ribbon but unfortunately it’s not!

Please, no more photos today! I need some time to figure out what to do with the ribbon.

Maybe Sisu remembers the ‘Ruska’ in Ranua? Ruska is the time in the Fall when the leaves in trees glow in all possible colours. It’s especially beautiful time in northern Finland.

I smell the Fall

Will there be snow in the Winter? I must ask Sheila and Philip when they visit us next time!

While I’m waiting for my friends’ visit I keep on dreaming of white fields.

Bye bye for now but stay tuned! The Yorkshire bears will be back soon!

  1. Dear Sheila, Mervi and Philip
What a lovely surprise for you to meet me on Monday and for Mervi to post this lovely story.
Luka’s fur looks really beautiful close up so the mud treatment must work.
As the photos show Indy and Yuma are pretty much the same size as Flocke. Tala is still the baby of the four.

  2. Dear ones,

it is amazing how peacefully the three eat their food together without fighting over it. You could say that they are used to share everything from childhood, but after all, the troika is almost grown up now, so rank fights are normal.

The changing colors in the fur seem to be a great passion among bears.

The photos with the rubber ring are divine and again so funny from you, dear Mervi, commented.

Thank you very much and best regards

  3. Dear Sheila, Philip and Mervi !
Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Flocke’s kids grow big. They all are still on the good terms. I hope Flocke will stay with Tala together.
The boys are huge. They have a lot to do in the big enclosure.

  4. Thank you very much dear Sheila, Philip and Mervi.
Best wishes to Flocke, Indiana, Yuma, Tala, Hamish, Luka and Sisu.

  5. What beautiful bears! It is lovely to see Flocke’s family dinner, everyone getting along.

The bachelor boys have incredible fur. I wish I could see them all in person, maybe next year.

Fun with accessories. Bears have such good taste in jewelry and how to wear it properly.

  6. Dear Sheila, Mervi and Philip!
It’s always nice to see bears doing well and the polar bears at YWP were lucky to be housed there.
Hamish’s game with the rubber string seemed a bit dangerous to me…
My favourite here is the standing Sisu. He’s already tall and stately, but still somehow droll and childlike. Adorable!
Mervi, your captions are again the cherry on the cake!

  7. Dear Sheila and Philip

Thank you for the adorable pictures and the enchanting report from the YWP!!

  8. Dear Sheila and Philip and Mervi, what a lovely report and wonderful pics. I really had to make a big effort to recognize Flocke when all kids are around her. They are almost as big as mammy. And even though they ae not really competing for their share of the food, they need to keep an eye on the birds (like everywhere, I suppose).
OH MY, Sisu took me by surprise. In mind, I was still having the view of a little boy, but OLA, now he is huge (and pretty). Photo’s of Hamish are just hilarious. It is always amazing how polar bears can entertain themselves with even small thingies.

  9. dear Sheila dear Philip,
thank you so much for all your great pictures from the wonderful Wildlife park, the bears have there a really good life, I am glad they have found this good home, it is always a big pleasure to watch such pictures
dear Mervi, thank you for sharing these lovely pictures with us. the kids of Flocke had a sweet childhood in France but now they have the good nature
    dear greetings and paw waves
