Rovaniemi – Autumn’s outfit turned into Winter costume

11.11.2021 – Photos by Marko Junttila

I spent my youth in northern Finland and I love the Winter. I remember how I always looked forward to the first snow to fall. Very often the Old Man Winter made his entry during the night.

Even this year the inhabitants in Rovaniemi woke up to an entirely different looking world. Marko has taken fantastic photos showing what a difference one night can make.

In many towns there are warm small houses for the birds and I hope even these birdies have a good place to go.

In the morning

This train arrived right in time ….

…. but I wonder if this one could leave according to schedule ….

The birds’ pool looks very chilly

Maybe it’s better to take off!

Winter can be colourful, too!

The Bohemian waxwings are beloved birds – maybe because they have such nice colours.

This time of the year there are still lots of rowans left for the birds.

People use to place food for these lovely birds in their gardens. Thus they can admire these beauties and make sure they’re not starving. They sure are a delight to our eyes!

  1. Dear Mervi and Marko!
What a difference a day makes! Thank you for these wintry impressions from Finland and the as always fitting captions!
I loved especially the photos of the birdies, they are pieces of art! The Bohemian waxwings for example are real beauties in a wonderful and colourful surrounding.
Hopefully they all will be able to find a cosy place to warm up and always enough food!

  2. Liebe Mervi,

das ist ein schönes Kaleidoskop von Marko aus Finnland
und ich hoffe, dass die Vögel auch dort gut gefüllte Futterstellen finden.

    Herzliche Grüße

  3. Dear Mervi and Marko
Thank you for sharing these photos of
I am sure this Winter there will be snow in
Doncaster to make Sisu feel at home.
    All the best

  4. Dear Marko!

I think the evening photos are wonderful and then I was very surprised how it looks in the morning with snow.
For me it would be too early for the first snow. That’s why I find the evening pictures more beautiful.

The pictures with the red fruits of the rowen are fantastic.

    Thank you, dear Mervi.

  5. dear Mervi and dear Marko,
thank you so much for these wonderful pictures from the nice town Rovaniemi in Finland. I also like the Autumn and the Winter very much, when I was a child also in our town Mannheim often we could enjoy the snow with Schlittenfahrten in the parks and with making snowmen.
I wish you a cosy Wintertime and that the lovely birds can find some food
    dear greetings and good wishes
