Peaceful memories of Knut

It’s hard to believe that 11 years have passed since we had to say goodbye to our Knuti. However, it’s amazing that our Magic Bear still is so alive in our hearts – and always will be.

Because world peace is something we all hope this tribute to the memory of Knut and Thomas Dörflein is about the most peaceful moments in their short lives.

The bond between the keeper and his little bear was so heart warming to see.

It was obvious that the love was mutual.

I’m sure we all have the same wish: May there be peace in Ukraine soon!

  1. Dear Mervi
Some may wonder now why we remain so attached to one Polar Bear years after his death.
I have an answer for them. In the pictures you see a man caring for a helpless white furry baby whose mother could not look after him. That man then died a few years later leaving the young bear to face life alone. For a few more years Knut took on all the challenges of growing up . He even got to meet and play with his mother. Then Knut died too.
We were all heartbroken and for many the story of Knut the Polar Bear ended there.
But some like Mervi had learned the lesson of Knut and his keeper. Life and friendship are a struggle but they give us meaning.
Thanks to people who gave their time and struggled to develop Vaccines we seemed to be getting over Coronavirus and the image of people being jabbed brought new hope.
As we watched another brave young man in a green shirt rally his people to fight an evil invader we were again finding hope in the midst of death. Like Knut and his keeper this story may not have a happy ending. But again new friendships are made between people who had never heard of Ukraine before. The struggle of life will go on.

  2. Liebe Mervi,

    Britta-Gudrun

  3. Dear Mervi,

Thank you so much for your comments and beautiful photo’s of Knuti and Thomas Dorflein.
A few months ago I came across ‘Knutisweekly.com following a post made by Ralph on a Yorkshire Wildlife Park Facebook Group……this led me to the wonderful but sad story of Knuti and Thomas Dorflein. I sat up until the early hours of the morning, watching many videos on YouTube, ultimately with tears in my eyes.…….I was hooked!
Although their lives were relatively short! what an amazing, special relationship Knuti and Thomas had. Their love for each other was evident for all to see…..I only wish I had been able to witness it first hand.

    Kind Regards
    Pat Waldron

  4. Liebe Mervi!
    Alles Liebe
    Anke

    Dear Mervi!
I will never forget how shocked – and incredulous – I was when I heard the news of Knut’s death on the radio.
Such an intimate bond between man and animal speaks from the selected photos that tears come to one’s eyes when one thinks of the fact that they both left us already eleven years ago. It still hurts after such a long time.
Thomas Dörflein and Knut will never be forgotten by all who experienced them and will always be a symbol of love and friendship, even between species.
Thank you for keeping the wonderful memories of a beautiful time alive!

    Hugs
    Anke
